    Amazing and memorable events

Oh man, I was sweating just reading this. Really! You actually went to bed and slept! I would have levitated my azz right out of that jungle.

    What are you reading?

@Mason Your comment above stirred up the sludge in my memory banks. A few years ago I read "A Year in the Maine Woods" also by Bernd Heinrich. In it he spends a lot of time writing about the Ravens. That was probably where he got the info for "Ravens in Winter".

    What are you reading?

Haven't read them yet. They are on the way from Amazon... "Paddling the Western Maine Mountains" by Doug Dunlap and "Canoe Trip: Alone in the Maine Wilderness" by David Curran I'm looking forward to both of them.

Your canoe trip plans, hopes, dreams for 2022

@TrailBlaser , The best of luck to you! At least one multiday solo trip. I don't know where yet, but Maine is full of opportunities. I already have several smaller bodies of water to paddle right close by. These are waters that are pretty much ignored by people every day. Should be interesting.

    Amazing and memorable events

It was the end of October 2011 it was archery season in central Mass. where I lived, and I was sitting in my tree stand. It started snowing heavy. At first, I thought it was great with the big wet flakes coming down, no wind, so quiet you could hear the snow falling. After a short while the...

    Amazing and memorable events

Fishing Upper McNalley Pond in the North Maine woods I heard a roaring noise getting louder. Paddling out of the little cove I was in I saw a wall of water headed my way. The rain was so heavy I couldn't see beyond it. As it washed over me the rain hitting the water was so loud it was almost...

    Christmas present for myself!

Unfortunately, no. Not by paddling anyway. Twitchell is one of my favorites. Though not very big the scenery is awesome, and the fishing is great!

    Christmas present for myself!

Yeah, it came with the sock. It was a surprise. I looked around for the second one, but it wasn't in the box. I was thinking of calling them and complaining... Glenn, I would enjoy a North Pond paddle with you. Might as well do Round and South as well. Make it a trifecta!

    Christmas present for myself!

The paddle has arrived. A little later than I was told but it's here! 58" cherry wood, oiled shaft and varnished blade. She's a beauty!

Voyageur portage loads - still almost unbelievable...

It's all "granny gear" for me now that I've reached a, let's say, more "mature" age. If there's such a thing as a gear slower than "granny" that's the one I use when I gotta go back for the next load.

    Binoculars.

I agree...I use a monocular when hunting. It's actually a finder scope from a Celestron telescope (6x20). Very clear and weighs nothing. Great for sneaking around in the woods. For binos my go to are a Bushnell 8x42 or an old pair of Sears 7-15x35. The latter from a time when they built things...

Poll: How many threads should the Latest Posts widget list?

First, thanks for your continued work on this forum! As far as an answer to your question. I, on occasion, will use the widget but only if something catches my eye. I pretty much follow the same procedure as Gamma1214.
