Discontinued canoe you wish was made again?

Modern composite Mad River Traveler in the low 30's in weight. It would be great for extended wilderness solo travel. G.

    Goin' Treeless

As others have mentioned, the answer is nope. I barely sleep at night when canoeing the barrens. While the others sleep I hike. So much to see, no place to hide. For me, it's the ultimate canoeing destination. Here's a few pics from the Horton River of fauna and flora not seen elsewhere but on...

    Photo of the day

One of the many seen floating on the Thelon River in the early summer of 2008. Later melt that year and the volume and speed of the current has just too much for many recently born caribou.

    How long is your streak?

Missed 2 years in an almost 60 year span. Trips are getting shorter and easier as I go from adventurer to just being there. G.

For those of you who like solitude of the solo canoe.

Hey Robin, Ha ha!. I don't break beaver dams. I, if on the high water side going to a lower level, will pick up speed and go over the dam and slide down the backside. When coming upstream I do as this guy in the photo.

For those of you who like solitude of the solo canoe.

Don't often have a camera with me so it was sort of a composite. So many scenes and animals that were never recorded during over 40 years of solo canoeing in LaVérendrye. To keep the vid authentic I did not use any pics from tandem trips. G.

Rebuild of a Mad River Traveler

For some reason I cannot open your photos however the problem could be at my end. I do not have this boat anymore so cannot be of much help. Thought I'd post a photo in case you could pick up something from it. Good luck with your project.

Show pictures of your tent(s) on a canoe trip

No doubt it is in good hands and will serve to shelter you guys for quite a while yet. Yes, the second photo looks better. Kind of wondered what had happened in first pic. Nice to see her still standing tall and firm. May you enjoy many more nights in her. G.

Getting in and out of the boat: Canoe vs Pack Boat

Thanks all for your replies. I was really wondering about portage take outs where the current is very strong, trying to pull you passed the landing and all things have to be done quickly and without spilling. Situations you can meet in the backcountry at high water. G.

Getting in and out of the boat: Canoe vs Pack Boat

For wilderness canoeing situations, above and/or below rapids, very rocky campsite shorelines, etc. I was wondering how one compares to the other as I have zero experience with pack boats. Thanks, Gerald
