Flash flood video from Center Point Texas

Wow. Yes, thanks for posting. That's an incredible amount of water in what appeared to be an almost dry streambed. I was compelled to watch the whole thing. The power of moving water never ceases to amaze... I'd be interested in seeing the area after the water recedes.

    Help to identify canoe?

Welcome to the site John. I'm no help at all with identification but I always appreciate anyone who repairs well-used (or even mistreated) equipment. Please consider posting repair threads so that we can follow along, live vicariously and, perhaps, some future tripper might learn from your...

    Wenonah Encounter - Why Not?

I'm a huge fan of getting out of your comfort zone & trying something new. Go for it. Even if you lose some money repairing & reselling, you'll have the experience and it's just money...

    A Legit ‘Expedition’ Hull Material

I'll agree w/ Alan that a lighter boat is more likely to be "durable" in a wilderness setting simply because you're more willing to carry it than you might a heavier hull. While the heaviest of boats might withstand impacts / potential wraps better, a featherweight might get you home unscathed...

    Happy National………Day

How did I (almost) miss "National Disobedience Day"? According to most, I've been pepping for that one my whole life! :)

    A Raven from Scratch

Went back over this afternoon, removed all of the clamps & scraped the excess epoxy where it squeezed out. I then used the pull saw to cut off the outer gunwales where they had run past the ends (Personally, I think it looks better when the outer gunwales don't end before the boat does) I...

    PIctures of celebrities in canoes

She's cute. I trust that she's, somehow, famous? (edit: dumb question... she's on a "celebrity" thread, duh.) Either way, probably best that tripping partners are along willingly. They're more help on portages and the only thing that gets slaughtered is the goat. (edit: dumb question...

    PIctures of celebrities in canoes

Geez, Glenn, I never thought of handcuffing a tripping companion into the boat. I guess that's one way to get a significant other to go with you... So many questions though... Do you recommend just stuffing her in the trunk for the drive up? How does the border patrol tend look upon that? Are...

    A Raven from Scratch

Wow. Reality check: it's WAY past "Monday night" & I'm still not done. I have, however, been making some progress... Since last check-in, I've glued & screwed the inner gunwales (mixed up a small batch of epoxy, thickened it with sawdust [from the dreaded sanding of the inside], buttered...

Deep scratch on my swift kevlar

Looks a little deeper than most but I'm not seeing a difference in "fuzzing" as it crosses the individual fibers (great close-up BTW) and the left-hand scratch, in particular, seems to bisect the high & low points of the horizontal fibers pretty well. I'd think you probably aren't into the...

Can you side sleep in a hammock?

I was just thinking that there should be.

Solid wood inserts for old webbed seat

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Go for it & post process & finished project pics so that, the next time anyone wonders, "anybody ever do this?", they'll have their answer. (Think of yourself as a pioneer instead of a guinea pig... I find that helps sometimes.)

Can you side sleep in a hammock?

@Patrick Corry I've wondered about that set-up and I really like the idea... The biggest issue that's kept me from buying is the size. I'm so used to the roominess of a 3 man tent (I take it backpacking also) that I doubt I'd be comfortable in the tighter confines. Good to know that my...

Misc Ramblings From the 'ole Miss(inaibi)

Heck of an adventure and an ending (extraction) that I hope I never have to write. Glad that you had the support that you needed and all ended well. I agree w/ Alan (other thread) that it might be a great excuse to hire a helicopter for drop-off, grab your brother and finish it out while...

Or truly desperate to escape the known.

    Camping with no tent, hammock

I forgot my tent on my, reintroduction to canoe tripping, BWCA trip a few years ago and wound up spending about 9 nights under a tarp with no netting. It worked really well but... 1) Bugs don't seem to like me and 2) It probably depends upon where / when you're going. Last summer in Ontario...

SOLD FS Carbon Fusion Keewaydin 15 $3000

Yeah... sorry to hear that you're forced to hang it up but I hope that it is some comfort to know the equipment will still be used. My preferred tripping tent was purchased from another CT member when she no longer had use for it.

A Week of Canoe Adventures: Western Pennsylvania Solo Canoe Rendezvous, Algonquin, and the Canadian Canoe Museum

Sounds like the WPASCR might need to be the last stop before home in 2026. :)

    Two rescues in one day

Around here, most farm ponds have snapping turtles and some get large enough to start negatively impacting fish populations. The largest are often harvested like any other game in order to manage predator populations within those environments. It is even legal to sell the harvested turtles if...
