Thread drift alert: I think everybody says "gunn-ells" despite the spelling. Is there anyplace that they say "gun-WHALES"?

Get the experience with this hull & re-evaluate afterward. It really doesn't take much change in hull shape to become "unique" although some minor tweaks may change handling characteristics significantly (for better or worse).

Personally, I can't stand staring at ropes for hours on end so I tie around the hull at the first roof rack station and call it good. Very cool that the pup likes it and even better that you seem to.

I think the safe bet is to assume that the bear can smell it and will eat whatever is available. I guess barrels or vaults are required now in the BWCA but I'd still hang. (Better safe than hungry)

That's what I use to lift them between the trusses of the carport. 1 per canoe seems fine so I'd say that you've got room for expanding the fleet. Mohawk solves the paddle problem for now but I'd recommend DIYing a wooden paddle (or 2) this winter. (nothin' like "I made it" IMO)

I'd try acetone. If for no other reason than it dries residue free. If you don't want anything that harsh / flammable, I've heard that Goo-be-gone works also.

Welcome. Looks like a great boat for the money. Are you looking for plastic / aluminum replacements or would you consider installing wood gunwales? (Not a bad DIY project IMO and that would look sharp with Cherry)
