    Speaking of open water crossings....

We think we're more clever than our ancestors, but really, we're not. Maybe not as brave either.

    Camping with no tent, hammock

I also have resorted to the Hennessy Hammock on trips where I know I will have the necessary trees but not much flat ground. I guess there are better brands, but I've been pretty happy with it. And I sleep better in the flat lay hammock than on anything else. Takes a little practice to get the...

    Nice O.G. Bell Merlin

Worth looking into. Maybe he wants to sail.

    Nice O.G. Bell Merlin

Yeah, I've been trying to ignore that. It's half a day's drive from me, but I'm not even going to contact the seller and ask about it's identity. Trying not to buy any more canoes until I get the sailboat sold.

    Saving Another RX Penobscot 16

Others will be along with advice about gunwale replacement. That's something I haven't had to do yet.

    Saving Another RX Penobscot 16

Welcome to the forum! First off, the Penobscot 16 is one of my favorite royalex canoes and worth bringing back to usable shape. I repaired one years ago that actually looked worse than that, other than your gunwales. Mine was only cracked on one side, and since the crack was only halfway...

    What about a Wenonah Moccasin?

For future reference and just in case it gets deleted eventually, here are some screenshots from the ad.

    That nasty cracked Wenonah Moccasin

Finally took the time to start addressing the damage on the Moccasin I acquired and mentioned in This thread. Here's a photo of how it looked after pulling off the duct tape that's been there for years. And after I cleaned it (which required shaving most of the crud off with a wood chisel...

CDC recommended facial hairstyles for respirator use

According to the chart, goatee is okay if you're careful, and Zapp is GTG. But circle beard is a no-go. Thousands of firefighters disagree. Another expert fail.

    Wildfire Smoke

We've had days (and weeks) here when not just the sun, but everything looked red.

C1 detachable bench seat and ratchet thigh straps

Idunno.... I've never been able to relate to the whole playboating thing. When I rode and raced dirt bikes, I couldn't understand the mentality of the guys who weren't training to race but would ride the same 1/4 mile dirt track over and over all day - while they were right next to miles and...

C1 detachable bench seat and ratchet thigh straps

Sure stretches the definition of canoe.

Load weight and trim and it's effect on stability.

All correct. ^ I feel much more stable in a tandem canoe when standing, rather than sitting on a seat.

Canoe odyssey just begun from NW-most to SE-most points in USA

Kyle is now starting into Noxon reservoir on the Clark Fork. That's some beautiful area he's in. He's making really good progress, and it's fun to watch him take on the grizzled look. ;)

    Snake infested water bodies

If you don't mind me asking, what part of the Snake will you be running?

Load weight and trim and it's effect on stability.

Lengthening the waterline also increases stability, so I don't think that's what is causing the twitchiness when you're paddling tandem. Frankly, I think it's your friend who is twitchy. I've noticed this with different partners in the same canoe. With some, it's no different than solo. But...

    Wildfire Smoke

For some, it's the memory of past abusive logging practices. But I think for most, it's purely emotional.
