    Single Trip Carry Portage Techniques

Well, it took me just as long to notice your answer, so.....thanks. I think it's a great idea, and I think I'm going to adopt it for some trips.

    Turtles are out

LOL, just when I thought the weather was going to get mild, it dropped back to 24f here.

    The new Swift Cirrus canoe

Oh, thanks! I feel better now. ;)

The New Swift/DY Redesign of the Dragonfly

Interesting point about the flotation. The float tanks on my Wildfire didn't stop me from adding bags, but now I wonder how much weight taking those tanks out would save. No, I'm not going to start cutting them out - but if I ever scrape together the money for another custom canoe, it's nice to...

Bowron Lake Canoe Circuit Late Autumn 2024

Thanks for this TR, @SilentWilderness . I had about written off the idea of Bowron after covid (among other things) killed some of my big trip plans. But your thread here is relighting that fire. Health permitting, I just might get to it after all.

The New Swift/DY Redesign of the Dragonfly

Ah, now that makes sense! Thanks for the explanation.

The New Swift/DY Redesign of the Dragonfly

It is interesting. But "fast" is bound to be defined differently by different paddlers, if for no other reason than we all have different "motors". For a strong paddler, a longer boat will probably be faster. For a weaker paddler (where I more likely fit in) a shorter boat with less wetted area...

The New Swift/DY Redesign of the Dragonfly

Ah. Another development from the department of redundancy department. ;)

The New Swift/DY Redesign of the Dragonfly

I'm trying to figure out what that is attached to the front thwart. The float bags look really familiar. ;)

The New Swift/DY Redesign of the Dragonfly

@dogbrain , I think that gray seat is an accessory cushion. Looks like it's held on with a couple of web straps. You can see one of them hanging down on the left.

    The new Swift Cirrus canoe

I ran into the same problem searching for "Osprey". How about Wenonah's Fisherman? Two very different boats from the same maker with the exact same name. We could probably have a pretty good thread just about recycled canoe names.

    Trade Wars to Affect Tripping?

You're probably pretty safe, Mem - unless you show up with a Tesla. ;)

spray cover without snaps or velcro

That's a clever solution, @wildgoose . Welcome to the forum.

    paddle sizing

Yeah, you're not gonna like this, but having different canoes effects your ideal shaft length. And this is why I have similar paddles of more than one length. And the more different canoes one has, the more the paddle collection also tends to grow. It's a little embarrassing. :) Also - I've...

Results of the more stringent 2024 bear-proofing food storage rules in the BWCA

Okay, I found a link to the list in pdf by going to the source here... https://igbconline.org/ My bear resistant container is in the group of "previously accepted but no longer available". I guess that means it's still good, but maybe no? Wording in the pdf is a bit ambiguous.

The link I'm talking about is what they claim leads to the list of accepted containers.

Revisiting this thread, and I note that the link in the story to the new regulation goes to a dead page. Has there been an update?

Solo Canoe Recommendations Needed for Rocky and Low Water Rivers

That's funny, because I sold the Sojourn and kept the Solo 14. The Sojourn is a great flat water solo, but I couldn't justify the storage space after getting the Clipper Solitude. Had I unlimited storage space, I never would have let it go.

    Which Canoe For Summer Solo?

Appreciate that. My preference would be the 16'. I stupidly passed on the one that was offered to me a few years ago. Not long after that, I decided my royalex P16 had gotten too heavy. Shoulda been listening to Glenn. I'm smarter now. ;)

How much safety is too much safety?

There's a couple of ways around that trade off, and they're pretty inexpensive. My helmet covers my ears. I have installed a very generously sized Salamander bill that is held in place with Velcro. A high collared sun shirt or summer weight neck gaiter protects the back of my neck. Some of those...
