Canadian HWY 389 and 510 to the East

recped, as usual you are an encyclopedia of information - never fail to impress. Thank you very much for the above. Whether known or not by him, his knowledge has helped me plan trips and has had a big impact on some equipment purchases I have made. I appreciate the knowledge and the TIME...

Canadian HWY 389 and 510 to the East

Hi Robin, yes it is a no tell situation for that canoe. I have rented cars for years for work and they seem to be less interested in damage these past few years. Scratches up to the length of a dollar bill, dents the size of a quarter are things I have been told. When I locked in my...

Canadian HWY 389 and 510 to the East

After my Denali experience I will pull the agent over the counter and walk them to the car with me to verify the spare. I brought 10 freeze dried meals as back-up on the other trip but only ate three of them - figured I might log a couple boon-docking days - and I will do the same on this one...

Canadian HWY 389 and 510 to the East

Thanks Alan, I used a a similar system but yours sounds more elegant. The Chrysler had the seats that folded into the floor which was perfect. I put 5 milk crates in a dice pattern, loaded gear in them and then put rods and all underneath with soft stuff. 6' x 4' plywood above that. It...

Canadian HWY 389 and 510 to the East

Hi folks, Not really canoe related so I hope this is cool. I am planning another loop into Canada, this time to the east. Cutting this off at a month - 6 weeks is a long time to live in a mini-van. I am interested in the scenic and if possible fishing opportunities along this stretch. From...

Miscellaneous Ramblings From My 13,500 Mile North American Tour

Hi Michael, Thank you for your question but I do not intend to put one together. I haven't even downloaded the pic's off my camera yet. Strangely enough I am not reflecting on the trip very much right now. It was everything I had hoped for, so nothing bad, just busy making plans for future...

Miscellaneous Ramblings From My 13,500 Mile North American Tour

Great taste in music Mem! Another fan - you don't come across too many folks who are familiar. They played a tiny theater in a small town an hour from Rochester. For those unfamiliar these guys are from Toronto and for about 40 years have produced some of the most depressing music you have...

    Solo - fears and boredom

I love being in the woods at night. Probably half of my 46's were done starting at midnite, and fishing for brown trout at nite is a favorite past time. Growing up in northern Michigan we had easy access to the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, and you could literally walk in any time. Nights with a...

    Solo - fears and boredom

Depending on the regs in your area you can have a tremendous time night fishing. I don't mean make casts into dusk, I mean wait until like 10 - 11 pm. There are some pretty freaky things swimming around out there - some actually have fins. You won't be bored.

Miscellaneous Ramblings From My 13,500 Mile North American Tour

We used the Ally 16.5 ft "folding" canoes on the Thelon trip supplied by the outfitter. Creepy little devices these are. The undulating boat snakes over and around rocks and all, but it's very sticky on rocks and had amazingly horrible seats. Upside is we were able to get 5 boats and all...

    Leaving firewood at camp

I have always left firewood behind, most likely due to Scouting. Wabakimi was funny. Unsure who did it (Friends of Wabakimi I would guess) but at almost every campsite there was a supply of wood, neatly cut and stacked, and in most cases was rotting away from lack of use.

Looking for canoe for solo flat water fishing

One thing to consider if you are just looking to fish would be a 9-10 jon boat. You can clamp the wheels on the stern and walk any where. it weights less than many canoes, you can row it, sail it or use an electric and/or a gas outboard. Plenty of room for gear and you can mount anchors on...

Miscellaneous Ramblings From My 13,500 Mile North American Tour

For the sake of this email, I would like to consider all Alaskan’s and Canadian’s as one people - everything equally applies to both parties. From that perspective I would like to say that everyone I met on my tour was extremely friendly and very helpful. I mean exceedingly so. In Yellowknife 3...

Knudsen Knupak canoe portage frames and bags for sale in Vermont

I'll toss it out there again. I have a late 70's Kelty Tioga XL pack and frame. Frame is free if you pay freight and that is the issue - ships oversized.

    Hilldeberg Tent & other items

Gonna check out the gear you mentioned. The pad sounds great, and that heater could have multiple uses - like winter steelhead fishing. Thank you!

What U.S. or Canadian documentation do you need to cross into the other country and back?

I have also noticed they no longer want my dogs rabies paperwork. I hand it over they hand it right back.

What U.S. or Canadian documentation do you need to cross into the other country and back?

Been traveling in Canada for many years and like most things there is a gray area. Only 5 states or so offer Enhanced licenses, mine being one of them in NY. I have only ever used my state issued drivers license. At present only need an enhanced - just used mine going back and forth between...
