    Next years trips?

All tentative: 5 days on the Au Sable river in Michigan in May; 3-6 days on the Allegheny in Pa in June; hopefully ADK ice out and pre-ice trips; and some nights on the Kinzua Dam. If I can convince my sons, an Algonquin trip.

    Living better electronically

Jim, Sounds like a good idea. But, now that it has been posted publicly, I'm afraid to try it ( I'm distrustful). I've been putting my key & fob, cell phone and wallet in a smallish dry box and securing it to the thwart in front of me where I can keep an eye on it (remember, I'm...

    Hand wear in colder Temps

I don't do much cold weather paddling (canoes in storage Nov - April) but when I need something to keep my hands warm, I wear an 80% wool blend pair of gloves. If they get wet (actually when) I still have some insulating value. I also have a pair ski gloves with waterproof shells for really...

    Small changes

Facebook and Twitter are not something I will ever use but if others have a use for them I don't care if they stay.

    Updating going on

Are the Facebook and Twitter buttons new or am I just super slow to notice:confused:? Doesn't really matter since I don't have an account on either.

When is it "too cold" to paddle?

Don't know about too cold, but it's too late when my son and I get around to putting the canoes in winter storage. (hopefully this week!)

    Campmor 20% discount

Spent about an hour perusing the on line catalog. Everything (and I mean everything) I was interested in was part of an exclusion. Needless to say... Campmor was part of my exclusion.

    Cheap alternative to Blue Barrels

Pretty basic math regardless of who did the work or the location: 1) 30L blue barrel - $60+; 1) 5 gal. pail - $0 to $5

    Cheap alternative to Blue Barrels

5 gal. pail works just as well and are free

Why I like the 'like' button

Frequently I read a post that I find interesting, informative, entertaining or downright humorous. Then, when I try to post a response, I discover I really don't have anything constructive or informative to add... so what's the point? There is the neat little 'like' feature to let you know that...

    Cheap alternative to Blue Barrels

If the trip requires carries/portages, I usually only take 1 barrel and it has a harness. On shorter carries (less than 400m) I just carry it by the handle and wear my backpack to avoid tripling. However, there are times when all the rules change.
