I am glad the canoe will be used; the guy who bought it has many other canoes and will definitely use the 15-and tht is why it was built!

SOLD FS Carbon Fusion Keewaydin 15 $3000

Glen, I knew a guy from the bwca.com site who has been interested in the boat for some time, and when I posted it there, it was gone. Saddens me deeply to part with it, but it will get used-and that sure beats hanging in my garage! Appreciate the kind words.

Stuff you don't need or hardly ever use, but you bring anyway

Saw and small hatchet. Heading in for a short 5 day BW trip next week, and I am leaving the hatchet at home but the saw is in my bin just in case; going to try hard not to bring it!

    Be Careful, All

NSFS recovered the body of a solo canoer near Curtain Falls yesterday. Not many details at this time, but the person was wearing a pdf. Tragic reminder to us all to be careful, especially early in the season. Thoughts and prayers to all.

Best Sleeping Pad for Side Sleepers and Comfort on the Trail?

Side sleeper with broad shoulders here. Most comfy pad to date for me is the Nemo Cosmo XL. it is no longer made, which is quite unfortunate. In addition to being quite comfy, it inflates easily with a built in foot pump and deflates in a flash.

Too Cool for School? (No paddling on school trip)

Totally a liability issue. I taught for nearly 30 years, and the litigious growth of US culture over that time span had an incredible impact on what we were allowed to do with students when on field trips. Over the course of my teaching career, I took groups of students on winter BWCA...

Things that interfere with or otherwise screw up canoe trips

I am expecting my first grandchild in June. Utterly rude of my daughter and son-in-law not to consider my annual June solo before they conceived.

Advice on severely long boat lead time.

You can deal directly with Swift; not the case with Northstar. Too bad about your experience; I believe both Ted and Bear to be pretty stand up guys. I had a Souris River for over 20 years; the thing was bombproof and exactly what I wanted when my girls were young. You can also deal directly...

    Fish guts

Most of my trips are into the BWCA and Quetico, and the BW regs tell me to dispose of remains a minimum of 200' from the campsites. Used to be in the water. Unsure what the current regs are in Quetico as I have not been there since pre-pandemic.
