Don't think there is any real weight savings. The walnut and ash are laminated and are oiled as far as I know. Hope to get it on the wateer in the near future.

I love everything about the Outback except the factory roof rack, they are useless! Anyway for my 2014 Outback I use Yakima 66" round bars, Yakima control towers and Yakima landing pads. I love this system especially since I can pop the rack on and off in matter of 2 minutes.

I totally agree on the Hemlock Eaglet, I have the lite tech version with the green tint so it weighs in at only 38#'s. The boat does perferm really well and is super solid canoe.

I second the Peregrine or even more stable and capable Hemlocks Eaglet!
