Rare Solo Canoes for Sale At Hemlock Canoe

Lots of newly listed boats available at Hemlock Canoe, including a nice demo Mayfly that I test paddled this summer; all built by Dave before the transition.

Rare Solo Canoes for Sale At Hemlock Canoe

My bad, wrong Bob. I assumed Dave dropped the prices to move out the stock and settle old business before handing off the keys.

Grade A boat or a second?

I think if anyone had an issue in this thread it was with the builder's initial response to Art. That kind of response to a customer of a $4000 boat deserves some criticism, not necessarily getting 'trashed'. In my book, the issue will be resolved when a boat is delivered that meets Art's...

Grade A boat or a second?

Interesting perspective. I've always found such problems to be indicative of comments in discussion forum threads, rather than reviews. I have been reading the reviews on p-net/paddling.com for years and cannot say I have ever picked up on such problems. I dare say I have learned quite a bit...

Grade A boat or a second?

I can certainly understand Art's reluctance to call out the builder publicly at this point, since they have agreed to replace the boat. This Forum, as well as Paddling.com, Amazon and a host of other sites that employ a buy and sell function have a review and rating system that benefits us all...

Rare Solo Canoes for Sale At Hemlock Canoe

I agree, the time to slash the price was at Slippery Rock. I had a heck of a time selling my Blackhawk Zephyr last year in this very forum. Still, there are some folks who seem to have a passion for these vintage hulls.

Rare Solo Canoes for Sale At Hemlock Canoe

They just lowered the price today on some of the 'The Bob' solo canoe collection they have on consignment at Hemlock Canoe, if anyone is interested.

Old Town Acadia 15 in Royalex

I always thought it odd that my Acadia and the image in the 83 catalogue had the black vinyl gunnels, decks and floatation seats while the other Royalex models those years had the white vinyl trim. Eventually OT would phase out the white trim entirely. Even though the previous owner had stored...

Old Town Acadia 15 in Royalex

I had a 1982 for a while, decent enough RX tandem. Replaced the plastic seats with webbed as well. Specs below. I do recall reading somewhere that some folks used the Acadia for white water boats, given the added depth and thick hull.

    Identifying a Great Canadian Canoe

Not to beat a dead horse or add to the mystery, but the USCG HIN database lists 1974 as the first year for Great Canadian. There are always a ton of Great Canadian canoes on Marketplace, perhaps you can get a screenshot of the decals to have replicants made or get someone to send you a pic. As...

    Identifying a Great Canadian Canoe

I see what might be the impression where the HIN may be in your pic. It may be possible to remove some of the paint and reveal the numbers beneath. While it might be interesting to know the actual manufacturer and date, the info is not required for you to do a successful restoration. I suspect...

Anything like this, maybe under the paint?

    Identifying a Great Canadian Canoe

I meant to point this out earlier, but the USPS document seems to be missing the Month/Letter code that accompanies the HIN format after August 1, 1984 (Figure 2) that the document references from Boatsafe.com I reached out to them but never heard anything back.

    Identifying a Great Canadian Canoe

As previously stated, Great Canadian was the importer, not the manufacturer, and so they would usually add a tag with their HIN number. But often, the true Canadian manufacturer's HIN would still be embossed in the fiberglass. There were a few suppliers to Great Canadian, and many began with...

    Charlie Wilson’s compare sheet

This is one I got from him several years ago. It is a Word doc and was missing a lot of data at the time. Not sure if he has updated it since.

We•no.nah retired 15' 6" Solitude (Retired) For Sale

As a point of reference, I sold my 2001 Solitude UL Kevlar for $1350 almost four years ago. Might have been a shade nicer than yours, tho'

Help me upgrade from my current solo: Wenonah Vagabond

I have had both a Vagabond and Trillium, both good boats but lacked personality. Aesthetically, I care not for the Northstar line of boats, but realize I am in the minority. Currently paddle a Swift Keewaydin 14 as it is a better fit than the Kee 15. It's hard to imagine that given a...

    Is the HIN sensitive information

Only reason I can see to blur it out is if someone is selling it and it's stolen. Would prevent you from checking it against the stolen database.

Greetings, and a Bell layup question.

I used a toothpick to apply the g-flex in the space between the straw and the hole, just letting run off the tip. A little tape under the gunnel held the straw in place and kept the g-flex from running out the bottom.

Greetings, and a Bell layup question.

In the past I have placed a piece of drinking straw to maintain the hole locations and poured G-flex around the straw and fill the holes to the top of the gunnel, then using cupped finishing washers to re-install the seat bolts. The washers cover the repair and prevent reoccurrence. How is the...
