I still have a pack frame with the pack from the early 1970’s when I first started backpacking. I don’t know that I ever will but it seems that I could probably fabricate the cradles for the top of the frame. Certainly would be a lot cheaper as opposed to the prices being asked for these items.

We used a 30 meter tape and were strictly supervised and expected to ensure the tape was laid flat on the tread so we got an exact measurement. Wabakimi Project standards on portages started to decline once Uncle Phil became too feeble to walk back and check our work.

Not exactly waterproof, but water resistant as long as it stays upright. These are no longer produced but apparently popular as I have gotten offers to sell it. Handy for bulky gears like stoves, lanterns,etc.
