Florida day tripping with Jake and my Wife …

I love the idea. It might work for me in my Wenonah Prism, it has pretty narrow gunwales with the tumblehome. I don’t think it would work in my Northstars.

Care & feeding of cold handle frying pans

I like grape seed oil for my cast iron and plan to do the same with my cold handle. Once properly seasoned as Bob said, you should only need water and a stiff brush to clean it. I haven’t used ashes before, but I’ve used sand and water on stainless.

    Gators and kids

Are they really? They wreak havoc on my Mom’s home AC & car in Michigan. Rats with racing stripes.

    Gators and kids

#25 is Lake Iamonia, no “L” Iamonia & Miccosukee check out, both lakes are positively crawling with gators. I wonder where the local rivers would stack up? The St. Marks, Wakulla, Wacissa, and Aucilla rivers in particular are well populated. Sad that this article describes Florida waters as...

How to carry canoe on F150 Supercrew short bed with trailer?

With a roof/bed rack you’ll have some amount of the boats sticking out- how long is the tongue on the trailer and if driving through a dip, you’ll close the distance between boat ends and trailer. Do the canoes fit inside the Casita?

How to carry canoe on F150 Supercrew short bed with trailer?

I do the single cab bar and T-bar hitch setup. My tonneau cover is the solid type that’s hinged at the front. You can’t tow with this setup, though you could customize a drawbar insert with this particular T-bar. So a single stake pocket rack for the back of your bed and a single cab bar should...

Time to make a new paddle

That second one was helpful to me. Here are a couple of my paddle escapades; I used a BLO/spirits mixture to rub an oil finish in. One paddle has a varnished blade and oiled shaft and grip. https://www.canoetripping.net/threads/a-little-paddle-maintenance-bruce-smith-fishell.127404/...

I looked at a canoe today, but didn’t paddle. Even so I thought this was worth sharing:

Photos of Animals, Fish, Birds & Bugs on a Canoe Trip

As I’ve noted elsewhere, Dad worked for National Audubon. One of my earliest lessons was “don’t look up with your mouth open.”

Lake George, NY: Cleanest in U.S.

My family has vacationed at Silver Bay (formerly YMCA) on Lake George since my Great Aunt Laura was 18 in 1905. Almost cheesy by today’s jaded standards, a great place to take the kids for summer vacation. My grandparents’ ashes are spread in the memorial garden at the chapel there. Silver...

    Seasonal withdrawal

What a contrast. Down here in Florida? I haven’t paddled since mid June. I’m excited to have some superb paddling weather now!
