CanoeTripping.net Shirts, Hats or Other Merchandise

Patches can be sewn onto packs, PFDs, jackets, hats etc. Stickers are good for hulls, food barrels, coolers, vehicles etc. Shirts are difficult because of the plethora of choices - style, size, color, material. As an example Erica noted she would prefer 100% cotton, I’d rather have a 60/40...

Hanging or storing a canoe off floor in a garage with vehicles

I bought an ‘05 outback new. 2.5XT 5-speed wagon. I really enjoyed that car. I couldn’t drive it when we had the first set of twins because the rear-facing baby seats needed the front car seats moved forward. I had to drive that car with the seat all the way back. Then when we learned we were...

Hanging or storing a canoe off floor in a garage with vehicles

I would love to have set my Hoister up that way, but the van wouldn’t fit in the garage with the boat that low, and the boat(s) didn’t fit above the door. Ah well, if I ever build a home to my own spec…

    Poll: Socks and Sandals?

I didn’t start wearing socks to paddle (unless wearing tennis shoes/boots when it’s cold) until I started kneeling and realized I didn’t want to burn the soles of my feet. As PaddlingPika above noted as well, I’m sick of sunscreen and am choosing to cover up instead where possible.

Old Town Discovery Sportsman vs Old Town Next?

That’s a good starting point. But you can also use trim to help manage wind and steerage. With a headwind, trim the bow down to limit how much the wind pushes your bow around, with a tailwind you can do the opposite.

Sounds like you’re in good shape. Looking forward to the trip report!

Old Town Discovery Sportsman vs Old Town Next?

Since your paddle is your connection with the water, it is not a great place to try and save money. I know it’s a lot to swallow after buying a boat, especially in canoe-length double blade paddles. However, (and Glenn beat me to this) a beater backup is a good idea so no real downside to...

    Silver Springs, Florida Day Trip

🤣 I’ve never heard of possum on the half shell described as cute! They are also exotic (Texas) invasives in Florida.

Hit by a Car on Bike

Man alive, that’s a drag. Glad nothing broke, but soft tissue damage can linger too. Of the 4 of us roommates in college, I’m the only one who hasn’t been in a bike/traffic accident. I did however wreck my dirt bike in the woods and dislocate my shoulder. I hope you make a full recovery without...
