Sorry to offer unsolicited advice but I would use bow and stern tie downs…especially in bad weather. I use them every time as I am scared of killing someone in a following car if straps or rack fail (both have been known to happen). Just curious…where did you go in Ohio for installation help?

Can’t imagine moving the thwart a couple inches would be detrimental to hull integrity. I have moved thwarts many times without problems. You could always call Northstar for verification.

Outside diameter appears to be 1 1/4”. Always able to cut with tin snips if I recall….again, been many moons! It is stiff but will mellow with age/use though it takes some time. I have Yakima racks with gunnel stops so tubing must be placed in the same spot every time. I put a pencil mark inside...

Loved our Explorer. Comfortable, predictable, durable. Not what most would call a high-performance boat, but getting you there without any worries I would call performance.

Used Penetrol many years ago and it is great at hiding scratches but didn’t like the colorful “oil slick” that followed me around. Looked like gasoline on the water.

I have been fortunate (or foolish) enough to have a few dozen canoes pass through my garages over the decades and am finally pared down to one that is “good enough” to satisfy my disparate desires.
