spray cover without snaps or velcro

Red Leaf Designs has snaps using a 3M adhesive. No drilling and very durable. They will be at Canoecopia if you want to see it in person. The Vores are great people. https://redleafdesigns.com/pages/what-kind-of-snaps-should-i-use I love the ingenuity of your solution, but am a bit concerned...

How much safety is too much safety?

Raft. Guide was high as **** and broached us on the ledge river right coming into the drop. I got pushed out by another paddler losing their seat. D2O is right... I don't remember the CFS, but it seemed rowdy. Got pinned for a bit on the undercut. Had the whole panic/last thoughts/peace and then...

    Which Canoe For Summer Solo?

Canocopia is totally worth the haul if you want to see the state of the industry and where hull technology has gotten. You will be able to see/touch/lift hulls all the way down into the teens of pounds. The only traffic I think you would run into would be that stretch of I41 by Green Bay, and...

How much safety is too much safety?

Semantics post ahead: Too much safety is any safety measure you didn't use. Not enough safety is needing a safety measure you didn't bring. Preparedness is the balance between the two. I wear a PFD, always. I've NEEDED a PFD once. Pillow Rock, upper Gauley, 2007. I would have died without it...

    Canoecopia 2025

Heh, we had Liberty Station last year for our Saturday lunch. We usually leave Saturday after the show, so we miss the BWCA dinner. I'm always down to meet canoeists.

    Canoecopia 2025

My son and I will be there Friday and Saturday. Helinox has had cots on Friday but not Saturday a couple of times. The Impression Solo and the Angler Ace are the longest two BB paddles at 280cm. I bought one or the other there my first year. If you call them and ask, they will bring one and hold...

    Useful Youtube for Canoe Tripping

I would like to know what he REALLY thinks of that canoe for all the lake travel he does. He just keeps doing it, so it must not be too horrible. But then, they use a good bit of gear that wouldn't be considered regular fare.

    LL Bean Hunters Carryall Pack

Other forum reviewers seem to put the max around 21".

Tarp type and set-up style, and let's see some pix

I found the deal and bought one. It looks huge, but we will see how the asymmetric cut impacts usable space. The listed weight includes two 7' 6" poles and MSR Cyclone stakes, so really not bad. I will start a thread when it arrives and I can set it up.

The effect of tariffs on the paddling industry

Using tit-for-tat exchange rates, it would seem that American consumers are already paying a premium for Canadian paddlesport goods. Looking at you, Swift. Manufacturers will charge what the market will bear. The language used to justify increases will reflect the popular boogeyman of the time...

Tarp type and set-up style, and let's see some pix

@ErktheRed I am in the market for such a beast and would be very interested in where this deal can be found, should you decide not to take it.

    Question about Maine backcountry camping

I don't think I would consider the rapids a mandatory carry. It's a I-II section, with no significant channeling. Broad, shallow, and rocky. If you want even less flow, wait to launch from the dam until after noon, when they slow down the release rate unless needed for flood control.

    Question about Maine backcountry camping

I'm an idiot, I completely forgot about mandatory carrying the falls. Nice catch.

Whatever happened to "canoe" life jackets?

I would love something like this for cooler weather. I wonder if we could band together and get a limited run. They are usually at Canoecopia as well. I bet they would be a lot pricier than most will pay, however. https://www.nrs.com/customer-service/email-us

    Useful Youtube for Canoe Tripping

I was going to include them in my list, but they haven't put up much content lately. After the bear incident, I think they were pretty well done for a bit.

    CCS Lean Stove Jack Mod

BB, it's silnylon. I have another tent that is made of the material and already equipped with a stove jack. Silnylon melts with high heat and embers, no flaming. That's a good tip from Song of the Paddle. Below are a couple images, should anyone find this thread in the future and wonder what we...

    CCS Lean Stove Jack Mod

Found the old BWCA.com thread. Linking here to maybe save someone else the time later. Dan built a prototype modified-pyramid shelter and was not pleased with the results. https://bwca.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=forum.thread&threadId=53359&forumID=15&confID=1
