    canoe fishing gear

I fly fish from my canoe too. In fact, I almost always have 2 rods with me - a 7/8 - 9' fly rod and a 7' light spinning rod with 6lb line on it. I like to drop anchor in a good spot and fish a while. I rigged up an anchor trolley that works very well. For canoe trips I tend to pack light as far...

Yes, there is actually a dam on either end. Just to the north is another resevoir lake that is very similar with drowned out forests, but much bigger.

Ah, that makes sense. I run Adblocker too but it never occurred to me that it would have an issue with Photobucket. Thanks for pointing that out.

Odd, I tried in 3 different browsers and they work for me. Firefox showed null for a split second on each one, but they did load. Are we able to embed Photobucket images?

    Bushcraft vehicle extrication.

The Mors Kochanski flip-flop winch. Ingenious and actually works very well. I was fortunate enough to take a 21 day survival course designed by Mr. Kochanski back in the 80s. I never got to meet him, but the course was life-changing.

I started out from the launch point heading square into a head wind. There is a slight current in this lake, which combined with the wind to create a bit of a chop...

    Knives and other bladed tools

I carry a fixed-blade on my belt when canoeing or in my fishing boat. I have a fero rod secured to the sheath with some inner-tube material so if I become separated from the rest of my gear I at least have the capability for shelter and fire. I also wear a couple of paracord bracelets so I have...

Thanks Karin. Sorry to hear that winter is still kicking your butt out there. Look at the bright side, the owl-sized mosquitoes will be another week further away!

Hi everyone, My name is Lorne and I hail from the west coast of BC. I'm early 50s and I have always had a canoe, except for the last couple of years after my old Kawartha was stolen. I do have a small fishing boat that I love, but it just doesn't carry the intimacy and personality of a canoe...
