    Long traditional Ottertail paddles

http://www.barkcanoe.com/accessories.htm Is anybody familiar with these paddles from the Bark Canoe Store. They look pretty nice and the price is very good. They look very similar to the paddles offered by Dri Ki woodworking but are offered in much longer lengths than listed on the Dri KI...

http://www.canoekayak.com/canoe/oldtownclipperjacobson/#oZBVqSbjxTGsH7j8. According to this article the OT Tripper design was heavily influenced by the Prospector design.

    Bonaventure; solo or tandem?

Looking to do the Bonaventure this Spring for the first time. For those that have done it in the past is it best to do it solo or tandem? Any experience with CIME and the canoes provided and their guiding service. Thanks

St. Croix River Maine / New Brunswick border

Thanks for sharing the photos of the trip. What USGS river gauge do paddlers use for the St. Croix and what is considered a good water level for canoeing?

    Ultimate Tripper

For the 20' Tripper XL we did the two man lift and carry. Worked OK but still uncomfortable due to the fact that the XL has no center yoke.

17' OT Tripper vs. 17 Prospector

    Canoe Lining Bridle

It helps to practice and experiment ahead of time with rope texture, thickness and the number of wraps in the prussik knot. I have researched a lot of old and new canoeing books and I have never seen this system in print. I've seen it used in Maine and it always seemed to work.

17' OT Tripper vs. 17 Prospector

I might have a chance to buy a 17" Tripper. Is the Tripper based on the Prospector design? Does anybody know how much rocker the Tripper has; It's always listed with some rocker but never any exact detail as to how much? Nova Craft list their Trippers as having 2.5' rocker. Any input would be...

    Suggestions on a Solo Canoe?

I do kneel about 1/3 of the time in rapids or rough conditions. The fit is tight and I am considering raising the seat about 3/4". I hope this will make this more comfortable for both sitting and kneeling. Not a huge fan of the foot brace and I am thinking of removing it.

    Suggestions on a Solo Canoe?

No Title Here is my Solo set up that is unique. It is a Wenonah SoloPlus but without the normal 3 seat arrangement. Ideal for the solo paddler that want a canoe that is a little bigger than the typical solo. Comfortable, stable, fairly fast due to 16'6" length and good up to class 2 water.

    Canoe Lining Bridle

Has anybody else used this system for lining. I use a section of rope attached to my painter line with a prusik knot. When you need to line just attach the bridle and then slide the knot to the bottom of the canoe. This can be carefully done even while the canoe is loaded and in the water.

    Ultimate Tripper

No Title I liked all the logging history that surrounds the Allagash. The trains, tramway, old dams and all the other remnants from the logging era. Having a Registered Maine Guide team made everything more enjoyable. The logistics, local history, and the food were all great.

    Canoeing knife?

No Title Check out EBay for some old classics. I got this Herters version of the Canadian Belt Knife for a fair price. Carbon steel, flat grind. I currently carry it as a neck knife.

    Ultimate Tripper

No Title Stopping was never a problem. We started at Indian Stream/Eagle lake and went all the way to Allagash Village. To me it seemed like the majority of the trip was lake travel connected by slow moving water; the exception being Chase rapids. The rapids and rocks seemed smoothed out by the...

    Ultimate Tripper

I recently enjoyed doing the Allagash in early May immediately after ice out. Our Registered Maine Guide let me use his Old Town Tripper XL. Weighing in at over 100 lbs, 20 ft. long and 41 inches wide it was the biggest canoe I ever paddled. Sad to see that Old Town dosen't make this canoe...
