Striperguy, As for working the middles out to the end.... I started about 1/3 of the way down and worked to one side then worked back the other way. The wrinkle was actually on the first 1/3rd section that we did, but I chalk that up to inexperience with fiberglass. Also, it was on the...

Thanks guys. My plan was to do three coats today. However, Jim said to lower the temperature after you put on the resin so how we did this was : 1. Yesterday afternoon I turned the heat on in the garage to 70 degrees. (Outside temperature was around 50-55 today. 2. Today 9am-10:45am put...

So the first layer went on pretty well. I have a couple of wrinkles but really pretty minor. When I was squeegeeing, the excess epoxy in my “grunge” can got so hot that it started melting the plastic. Is that pretty normal? Other than that, I’m pretty happy with the results. Just waiting for it...

Hmmm... I’m half tempted to say screw the fiberglassing and drive out to Montana instead. Those are some nice perch. In preparation for tomorrow, I spent the day fishing today. Did pretty decent on the walleyes just fishing off the dock and walking down the shoreline. Biggest one today was only...

What is the best cleaner to use before laying down the fiberglass? Just a damp rag to get all the dust off? Thanks guys, getting nervous for tomorrow and trying to cross all the t’s and dot the i’s.

Jim, I have a few people helping out so should of be good on that aspect. The garage is heated so I planned on setting the temp at 70 to start the project. I plan on doing at least 3 coats on Saturday. My understanding is that you need to wait about 3 hours between coats. Should I wait...

Great advice Mark! I’ll definitely keep an eye on the sides. I’ll be posting pics when I’m done

Going to be doing the fiberglassing next Saturday, pretty nervous about it but should go pretty well. If anyone is bored, feel free to come to central Wisconsin to help out! I’ll supply the cocktails.

Thanks guys, I already had bought the West System epoxy so wasn’t going to reorder that. I figured I should at least go with the 6oz glass because I’m pretty sure I got a little carried away with the sanding... Chasing rainbows I guess.

Glad to see the website is back up and running!!! Anyways, I’ve been busy with the stapleless build. The clamps that I made (Jim’s suggestion) worked perfectly. I couldn’t even imagine how hard it would have been without them. I bought 20 of them and probably could have used 10 more at...

    Instant bond glue

Has anyone tried using the instant bond wood adhesive with the aerosol activator? I was was watching a SUP build on YouTube and the guy was using it to instantly lock together all the places that he couldn’t get a clamp on. Looked like it worked pretty good and I see where it could be quite...

    Fixing bubbles under fibreglass

Thanks for sharing Traveler. I decided to go stapleless for my first build and after seeing this, I am glad I’m doing it that way. The build itself looks really nice though! Seeing this really makes me even more nervous about the glassing aspect. Thanks for sharing, Terry

    Fixing bubbles under fibreglass

Traveler, Sorry I don’t have an answer for you, but can you post some pictures? Might help newbies (like myself). Hopefully some of us can learn from others mistakes. Hope you can get it fixed! Thanks, -Terry

Has anyone played around with the dying the epoxy resins? I was debating trying to do something like this into the decks using driftwood from the river here or some live edge and cracked cherry that I have laying around. I think that would really look sharp. Terry

Pretty happy with how the planking is going (so far). My plan was to do 2 strips a day due to stapleless, but since I’m not to the bilge yet, I was able to do a few more. Im sure noticing how bad of a job I did on the bead and cove. I have quite a few gaps. I’m guessing that my coves were...

I used paraffin wax instead of tape on the edges of the mold stations.

Here is what I would like to attempt, but like I said, I’m not sure I have the skills to pull it off. I do have plenty of extra strips to make a few dry runs and see if I can make it work, and I’ll have all winter to try it out. Again guys, thanks for all the tips, tricks, and support. -terry

Jim, those clamps look like they would be a great asset. I’m definitely going to try to add the inter tube to mine. Mark, Great catch on the stem being over the mold. I didn’t have my stem form attached to my 6th station so it wasn’t properly seated. Apparently I missed that as I was too...

Managed to get the first two rows on today. Since I’m trying to do this without staples, it will be slow going from here. I’m shooting for two strips a day. One in the morning and one in the evening.

Ok so I got all of my strips cut an put a bead and cove on them today. I got to say, I’m pretty impressed with how that turned out. One of the 1x6s that I cut strips out of was not as tight of grain as the other ones and it really showed when I did the cove edge. The edge seemed to splinter...
