A beer with a canoe on it I can recommend

I love threads like this. Beer and canoes, does it get much better? :)

A beer with a canoe on it I can recommend

Interesting tale, Odyssey. Reading that got me to look on the Unibroue site, as I remember reading their history of the name too. Here it is, a much more condensed version, but similar.

A beer with a canoe on it I can recommend

The beer is only 8% ABV, so to fly you either need to drink a lot, or maybe those mushrooms might help. lol

    Polarized sunglasses with cheaters?

I had a pair of those transition glasses once. While nice to have sunglasses when needed, they were way too often dark when not wanted. On an overcast day, they would get real dark, and I would often have to take them off whenever I wanted to make something out, especially in the distance. And...

    Polarized sunglasses with cheaters?

I quite like that idea. I think I will give them a try. I really don't need glasses for distance, but do own progressives for working, as I found reading glasses to be a pain for anything buy stationary work. I have been wishing for sunglasses to have readers in them, rather than buying...

    Donations

Threw some money in the pot just now, myself. Do keep us apprised of the money situation as time passes, and if the coffers need some more topping up. I would be glad to do an annual amount. Jim

A beer with a canoe on it I can recommend

Beat me to the punch. I drink lots of the Unibroue offerings all the time, and Maudite is pretty much my favourite of theirs.

    What dose ageing canoer need?

I have been using an Exped DownMat 9 for 10 years now, pretty much since they first came out. By far the single best gear improvement to my enjoyment in the great outdoors. Not cheap, but for the comfort and enjoyment I get out of it, it is priceless. In the summer, it is overkill insulation...

    Hi

Welcome. I am new here too, though not to paddling. Building your own canoe is not too tough, just a bunch of things you need to learn, but if you are at all handy and inspired, easy enough to do. One member here, Mihun09, has built a canoe and worked on others. Not sure of all she has done...

    Donations

Just a newbie here myself, but with the week I have been here, I have already gathered some good info. Heck, my bookmark folder for canoe packs is now pretty full just from reading that thread, and I have not even begun to start back past the more recent threads. I had gladly donated to...

    What dose ageing canoer need?

Not an elder yet at 57 this year, but I do paddle with a lot of them. One of the keys is to be in good shape all around, not just for paddling. I see folks in the 60's and 70's doing great because they are in relatively good shape, little or no extra weight, good diets, regular exercise, etc...

    Six Day Solo WCPP

Great trip report. Nice to see some of the country out that way. I can only hope to get there myself some day.

    Cowboy Coffee thoughts

I truly enjoy beans from around the world, roasted to different levels. Blue Mountain and Kona coffees are very good, but in my opinion not worth the premium you pay for them. Some of the Papua New Guinea coffees use the same plants as the Blue Mountain coffees do, and are way cheaper. I do like...

    Hello From Calgary, Alberta

So it is, thanks. My old bookmark no longer worked, and a couple weeks back, I had been emailing with Joan who said they hoped to get it back soon. Their updated main site sure looks nicer.

    Hello From Calgary, Alberta

Yep, that's me. I hadn't been around there in a while, as life got in the way of my build, but recently went back to see the forum wasn't there, as they were working on the site. Is it back yet that you know of?

    Hello From Calgary, Alberta

No portaging on this trip, we did not go real light. We were carrying a bit of gear for a 'yakker, plus making room for Jasper. The canoe is light at 40 lbs. Jasper loves canoeing, but sure isn't much of a paddler, viewing it more like a spectator sport. :)...

    Cowboy Coffee thoughts

Like many here, I just love a good cup o' Joe. Lots of great ways to brew, and enjoy it. When canoeing I have brewed using a mocha pot, just a pot (Cowboy style), French press, AeroPress and pour-over. I even roast all my coffee too. I love having a variety of tastes, both from the origin of...

    Hello From Calgary, Alberta

Thanks for the kind reception, folks. I have linked to a photo taken on Maligne Lake in Jasper NP last Sunday, on a trip. I tried uploading, but the file was too large. Need to figure that out.

    Hello From Calgary, Alberta

I am active on a couple other canoe/backcountry sites, and have been actively exploring our great outdoors since my early teens, over 40 years ago. Being from Alberta, river tripping is more common than flatwater tripping, though I just got back from a glorious 5 day trip on Maligne Lake, in...
