What to do with the vehicle parked on a long trip?

Picture this...bored kids looking for coffee money/stuff go thru your car and find your beer. Proceed to party in and around your car till its all gone and then trash it as they are now drunk and still bored. Or they could be those younger males who seem to need to show feats of strength when...

What to do with the vehicle parked on a long trip?

That's the spirit! I keep saying that is why I drive a minivan. if you drove a grand cherokee your going to get hit - a minivan? Nothing good to steal in a minivan. That's the hope anyway. Sad that it happens but I do believe it is sometimes luck of the draw.

What to do with the vehicle parked on a long trip?

Try not to leave any valuables in the vehicles and always travel with my important ID. Copies of ID are at home. Wife worked in claims of an insurance company years ago - and we have been hit too. Both taught us better ways, but in some areas up north, the youth are bored, drunk, angry or...

Some validity in that - the smaller stations are often staffed by members with more experience while Pembina is a training depot and the recruits are often evaluated and rewarded on "enthusiasm" and conduct training exercises on us unsuspecting tourists. I read that on a US Border Guard...

That really sucks (to be blunt) I always assume my vehicle will be broken into if I am in some of our portage areas and am thankful when its not. I have helped other tape up windows after a long weekend (and they left the vehicle unlocked). Some localities are worse than others. Many offers...

    Boreal bailout

Great work! Curious on where you put in? and do you go up or downstream? I am pleased to hear some moose in that area, hopefully they come back with the closure.

Poll: What percent of the time do you use a double blade paddle solo?

I received one earlier this month after special ordering it from a local vendor. I tried it, my daughter & my dog on a local lake. I doubt I would have been able to replicate the same limited progress had I solo paddled. Quartering winds, wakes, and a randomly shifting 45lb wet dog made...

Stuff you take now that 15 years ago you didn't

Took a minute, the "H threw me for a minute. I used to use pill cases for fish food when I had multiple tanks and family had to feed them when I went away. Now I use them as designed - but use a Ziploc for backcountry trips.

Hook in finger (not for the squeamish)

Wow, Good job on getting it out. I hope the hook was sharp when you had to push it thru. Bonus points for getting it on film Robin - a true artist reaches for the camera before the pliers! 2' snot rockets are fun to catch - not fun to release.

Stuff you take and don't use

I always take the same type of stuff, I found cutting down on clothes was one big thing to reduce bulk and weight. The farther I go, or the longer, the more I will take to cut risk of not having something. It's amazing what I forget when car camping (never forget the beer though). Actually...

If you check the times, he has had a few longer days. last spot was noted 11:17 pm I used tracking while travelling across Quetico in 2012 and those I gave the link to enjoyed it very much. Especially when we got off track one afternoon! They could see we were headed in a wrong direction -...

My spot is pretty accurate. More accurate than the iPhone, and I see way more "hop" with my garmin etrex. We had a system at work that averaged the readings over a time period to give a more consistent read. Maybe the spot does the same when it takes a reading. I don't know - just a guess His...

    Neversink Natives

I think of fly fishing as hunting fish, but with no real streams close by its stocked waters. I like going for them with dry's on the surface as opposed to trolling a fly. It's way more fun than hard tackle but jigging for walleys has its place too.

Poll: What percent of the time do you use a double blade paddle solo?

Just ordered a BB Solo Slice in 280cm, until it arrives I don't really have a choice.

Now to find room for it all

I like the barrel organizers. I would add scotch, at least a couple pounds for sure. Enjoy your trip!
