    Quetico or BWCA?

Hi Marten! I have read your stories online (canoe stories was the site I think?) and your the maps of the portages to reach WCPP. It's on "that list" we all have. Thanks for taking the time to map everything out for us! Love your videos and stories - keep it up! I don't know if I am...

    Quetico or BWCA?

Thanks for your opinions, keep them coming! and if you have fav routes - it's appreciated - I will look them up. I understand the cost aspect and I am "ok" with the fees - I am taxed to death in Manitoba anyway so I guess I am used to it. I did Beaverhouse Jean lake and Quetico, Sturgeon...

    Quetico or BWCA?

You know your dog loves the outdoors when they find trees in the house to hang out under. Only a few branches sampled so far.

    Quetico or BWCA?

As the Title says - should I go Quetico or BWCA next summer? Probably a week +/- in Mid Summer. I have the books for both - maps for most of Q, none for BWCA. Travel is about the same to both for me. Quetico - have been there, do want to see the falls chain or go deeper in to the heart of...

Hot Tent Sleeping with a Cot or on the Ground?

That sounds like my exact set up - and your experience is why I use it!! When using the cot in sofa mode, I slide my exped off and roll up the sleeping bag or the insulation gets crushed. Use a Closed cell pad or reflectix for the guests!

Hot Tent Sleeping with a Cot or on the Ground?

Never slept three in it yet, that would be difficult on cots due to floor space. I am usually single occasionally double. At that point I would go three across the back on the ground. You may get four in it if you don't roll around too much. I spoke with Duane [sp?] when I ordered it and he...

Hot Tent Sleeping with a Cot or on the Ground?

I have 9 x 11.5 EXP Shortwall. Use cots - even haul them in the woods and con others as well!. I think about using an underquilt - but currently use a Exped Downmat 9. I may play with it but from what I see the UQ is only Elastic bound on the ends, and gravity of the hammock puts the insulation...

Be careful out there - crap happens

I wish scuba dry suits were that cheap - then I would have one. I think about going out in my wet suit sometimes, when it gets this cold. But then I find something else on land to amuse myself doing. I do want to try ice diving one time - just cause. Glad all worked out for man & pup.

    Inreach

My little garmin etrex 20 is great on batteries. All day with tracking it runs about 3-5 days before 2 AA batteries die. then they get charged in my solar panel tied on the pack. I have a spot and like the In reach and if I didn't already one I would buy the Inreach over the spot. Annual cost...

WTB SnowTrekker 8x10 Basecamp and Stove or Similar

I know a ST is pricey, but they are very well made and easy to set up. I really like mine. They come up for sale used on various forums and CL/Kijji now and then. They hold a fair amount of value and are usually in the 800 to 1000 range.

    Wool blanket repair...felting

Sorry guys, wood smoke, pine, and leaves are all great outdoor smells. Wet dog is not one of those for me. Great job on the repair to the blanket! I will remember this if one of the dogs puts a hole in it. They have a bit of white on them!

Best canoe dog for wolf protection

Most people would be insane living with one BC, I have owned a few over the years and a pack of them would herd my wife off to the funny farm.

    Live Free Or Die!

Welcome, I was thinking ahead when I saw the photo and was reading your story that your canoe's history ended in a barn fire. Glad it still lives on, and I am sure the gentleman who sold it is happy it is being cared for. you'll find that epic trip - and maybe it will be with one of your kids.

What to do with the vehicle parked on a long trip?

I hear you Glenn, but that scenario was kind of outside my replies. I have traveled cross country in a 30' Jayco trailer - and it only got broken in while in storage. Unfortunately our trips were too short - but I enjoyed them!
