Great report! Thanks for sharing. Looks nice but I'm not sure I could deal with the sand.

Lows Lake, Aug 13-18 2013 (very long & pic heavy)

Lows canoe trip, Aug 13-18 2013 Me and a friend of mine (Woody) left my house in PA around 5am and arrived at Lows lower dam around 11:30am. The parking lot was surprisingly full and busy with other paddlers loading and unloading for a Tuesday morning. Even though cars were parked on the...

    Tugeyes??

Lining seems like a fun challenge and I think it would add something interesting to talk about and remember. One of those "remember that time we had to" types of things. It makes sense to me that the lower there attached the better.

    Tugeyes??

I don't have very much experience lining so I can't really say where or how is better but here is what I did. My boat already had holes going straight in the bow and stern under the decks so I just used those to attach painters. Then I drilled holes in the deck plates, ran deck bungee...

I have a Stohlquist Rocker http://www.stohlquist.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=27 I bought it for use in my kayaks but works well for canoeing too. It allows plenty of movement and I forget I have it on. Here's me wearing it. It doubles nice as a pillow.

    Gear Acquisition Syndrome

I have a bad case of GAS, aka gear junkie. My grandfather always had all the gizmos and gadgets and "the latest and greatest", I suppose that's where I acquired the skill, or maybe the curse is more fitting..... I tend to use my 5 kids as justification to my wife (and myself) as to why we...

    guide too wide??

I used to have a disco 158. I paddled it mostly in the small stream in front of my cabin. Fished a lot out of it, often my wife and I and 2 or 3 of our kids. Paddled great tandem, it was ok solo but to be fair I did not solo it much or very far plus I was pretty much a novice at the time. It is...

"just keep it friendly and about canoes" "If someone takes a cheap shot or treats you unfairly, take the high road and let it be." Sounds like a good rule and guideline right there.

I skimmed through the GW thread a little after it was locked and didn't see anything that bad or offensive either, I was actually kind of confused as to why it was locked. I did not look at the thread before it was locked. I'm here to talk and learn about canoes, canoe tripping and camping. I...

Funny thing, the only problems I have ever had as a mod has been with other mods. We had 1 moderator who would get involved in "heated discussions" and then want to take action against those who disagreed with his side of the fence. Then we had another who would stand up and defend his buddies...

Just the tip of the ice cube...

Your battery looks fairly new but if it's an older battery it might just be getting old. I've noticed on older batteries in vehicles that sit for a while between starts that even a very small draw will drain it enough to not start.

Yes board/forum rules are almost always a must, even more so as the membership grows. The owner makes the rules and normally has a moderator team that agrees with and will uphold the owners rules. You will always have members pushing, twisting and trying to circumvent the rules. I've been a...

    Who still brings axes?

I carry an axe. I usually just carried a gerber axe (about 16" I would guess) backpacking and canoeing. About a year ago I bought a nice lightweight axe made by browning for canoeing, it's longer than the gerber but still not full size. It has some sort of plastic/composite handle. It's ok but...

    Survivorman in Temagami Forest

Yeah he did 2 shows there, 1 in winter (plane crash, 2004 I think) and 1 summer (new season on now). I think this new season he is in NY somewhere too, I would assume the Adirondacks. It didn't air yet though.
