    Sylvania Wilderness

Yes, there will be blackflies in June, especially in the early morning and late afternoon. The intensity will depend on the type of spring we have. This year wasn't too bad... If I remember correctly, most of the severe black fly days were gone by early June. Then the helicopter-sized mosquitoes...

    Sylvania Wilderness

In five days you should be able to travel through nearly all the beautiful lakes in the park. Each has its own personality, as you can see in Roadends' great pictures. Stop at Sylvania Outfitters on your way there. Owner Bob Zelinski is a very enthusiastic and interesting guy, and a local...

    What are you reading?

Lots of good books out there. Is there a way we could compile a list that we can all access and add to?

    What are you paddling?

Add another Nova Craft Pal in Kevlar Spectra. Any way to minimize the scratches and gouges? It got pretty beat up this season between WCPP and BWCA. I have a Wenonah Rendezvous in RX for the local rivers and creeks.

    Lake Vs. River trip

I heard about that. I think it might have been 2010. Harlan and Bob B talked about the road being flooded by a beaver dam. There's always the Lund Lake entrance or traveling in to Leano Lake from Ear Falls rather than Red Lake. Harlan would have the road conditions. Farmer and I lucked out this...

YC, I can't get your Yukon trip out of my head. Where can I get some good information on the logistics?

Poking around old rundown camps-cabins-trapper's huts

Very cool... Any more photos? The Yukon is definitely on my bucket list. A friend and I were working on plans to go in 2010 but he backed out when he heard the water was murky with silt. He's a kayaker and too accustomed to the clear waters of Lake Superior. I may have to solo.

Poking around old rundown camps-cabins-trapper's huts

This old trapper's cabin was near one of Marten's lunch sites in Woodland Caribou PP when we were traveling together last August. There was no sign of any activity there for decades. This was taken through the window.

    Lake Vs. River trip

My answer contains pretty much the same both sides positions that you make. Included in my pros for river tripping would be wind protection, more solitude, continually changing vistas, fewer and shorter portages so you can take some luxury items like a bag chair,. My pros for lakes tripping...

    How do you do dew?

I carry a Sham-Wow cloth or two with me and do a quick wipe down before I take the tarp and tent down. It doesn't remove all the moisture, but it does make it a little easier to pack and it speeds the drying time when I set it up. It only adds about two or three minutes to the packing time. The...

    Suggestions for Boots

Anyone have recommendations for good paddling/portaging boots? I bought a pair of Chota Quetico Trekkers this past spring and the sole started coming apart at the toe while up in the WCPP this August, after less than 20 days of use. I need to find boots or chukkas that offer good support for my...

A Few Photos From The 2012 WCPP Gathering

Martin's video was great as always, and I was pleased and proud that he used some of my photos. How about posting a few of yours, especially those moose pics.

Yes, I'm going through Harlan for the flight, and I believe that the gathering on Glenn Lake has been cancelled. I will, however be joining up with Bob B, Martin, and Farmer at Royd Lake on the first of August. That's four of the six who were at the gathering last year. Harlan and Jazzman will...

I've changed my plans slightly. There's a float plane going in to Walking Stick Lake to pick up some fishermen on the 27th, and because it's going in empty I got a good price. It's a great opportunity for me to get to start my trip on the west side of Woodland Caribou. The farthest west I've...

Hello all, I'm headed up to Woodland Caribou Provincial Park on the 22nd or 23rd of July for a solo trip and the annual gathering at Glenn Lake. If anyone would like to tandem up or into the park I've got room for another canoe and another person. I will be traveling from Hurley, Wisconsin to...
