I have a Mad River Independence in Kevlar with wood trim for a trade. Used very little and always stored inside.

Poll: What percent of the time do you use a double blade paddle solo?

A big +2 from me on this one. On the subject of trying something new. Beer seems to be really popular among some folks so I felt I should at least give it a try. I found a can in the garage that my brother must have left a few years ago. It was sitting in the window so seemed pretty warm but...

Poll: What percent of the time do you use a double blade paddle solo?

My reasons for always using the DDB are many. First I enjoy mindlessly cruising all day. If the wind shifts it is easy to adjust and maintain a straight course. I like being able to move at a fair pace while only " Lily dipping" the DDB. I never have to switch sides. I can sit back in the Crazy...

Poll: What percent of the time do you use a double blade paddle solo?

As an ardent proponent of the double I stay clear of these threads. It is hard to change what others prefer to use. Back in '12 BobB and I entered WCPP for a thirty day trip. We separated after two portages with plans to meet on Royd Lake in 20 days. Twice planes came in as other trippers came...

    Coffee

We have made a lot of cowboy coffee and waiting 5 minutes for the grounds to settle usually leaves the grounds at the bottom of the pot, maybe screen the first pour if you are fussy. Watch carefully as you pour the last cup and stop when the grounds slurry appears. When alone I put coffee and...

Help me choose my last Canadian river trip

Starting on the east side of WCPP using the Onnie Lake access and then travel the Gammon River to the Bloodvein and out to Lake Winnipeg would be an epic trip. Probably too many portages and too many days involved to fit your criteria. A lot of info out there on the route. Alan Gage went out and...

    Glowing stove pipe

I have never used a stove tenting like you do but it should work the same as any wood stove. An airtight stove with no air leaks should not even need a pipe damper. The fire can be controlled with how much air you let in through the door damper. Close that up too much and it will smoke out any...

Tip out spurs quest for a new chair

Last year you could get the Helinox sunset for 85-90 US dollars if you searched the internet occasionally. Still not cheap but it is a quality chair and the feet issue is easily solved if you are not camping on the Canadian shield like I do.

Bought a Helinox Sunset last year. No complaints. Very high back and high seat height. High weight rating too.

    Tripping Plans for 2020

I will be expanding my knowledge of routes in Manitoba's Atikaki Provincial Park. Most of the lakes are unnamed Last year we walked the portage to one some call "Frigid." A good sized lake with many bays and islands to explore. Three portages exiting the lake so a lot to check out on trips out...

    Charging a phone while tripping

For those that are are part of a group with various devices a few battery packs and small solar panel can alleviate the need for multiple backups for multiple battery types. My little video camera uses a lot of power, a problem back home pulls more juice from the InReach and now there are even...

Chukuni Outdoor Supply in Red Lake, Ontario

Red Lake Outfitters closing down was kept kept quiet. What was not kept quiet was the video rants against Claire, assistant supt. of Woodland Caribou P.P. I can tell you that Claire has been the go-to person for WCPP for decades and has been smeared because she pushed back against anyone anyone...

Chukuni Outdoor Supply in Red Lake, Ontario

The opening comments on this video and some messages left tell a lot about the demise of Red Lake Outfitters. Richard of Chukuni Outdoor Supply stepped up and went out of his way to help this canoe party that showed up for their prepaid canoe trip and found that Harlan had left town...

Personal hygiene on extended trips (The Deodorant Debate)

My trademark is the combo bath and laundry as I wade into a meter of water while still plenty warm from padd!ing. Kinda an all in one wash. Real laundry in a bucket once a week and nightly toothbrush with paste and then floss. Oh, and deodorant every few days. Most appreciate a cook that doesn't...
