Video, of a guy tipping a canoe over in the middle of a Minnesota Lake

My worst was heading out into the Quetico in a tandem with a friend. We were last getting going and the three solos headed across instead of taking the long route along the shore. Mid-May and the ice was hanging off the vehicles from the all night drive up. About 28F with the wind kicking up...

Video, of a guy tipping a canoe over in the middle of a Minnesota Lake

In trying to figure out what canoe he had I noted that the bow rarely made contact with the water. Fishing poles were less than half the length of the canoe. Yoke looked like it could carry a very heavy canoe.

Anyone know what canoe that was. He said 10 foot but was it. Seems to be a tandem.

How is your winter so far?

I am in the process of putting up a new log cabin at my get-a-way cabin at the top middle of MN. With the mild winter I have gone up three times to process floor and roof planks with my Granberg Alaskan Mill. Last week temps were +20 to +45 with 8 inches of snow on the ground. The third session...

What are your current solo canoes and how do you like them?

Have had a Wenonah boats. Still have my Prism after 30 years. Picked up an Encounter a few years ago. Latest and not used yet is the 20 pound 12.5 foot ADK. This because it can slip inside an Otter floatplane. I keep a Pakcanoe 165 for the same reason. Only two canoes on the outside of an Otter...

What Do You Do In Winter ?

With a river bottoms cabin 8 miles from my house and a very remote old log cabin 600 miles away at the top.of MN I have plenty of spots to escape to over the winter. Here in northern IL we have too many deer and an unending supply of various deer tags with seasons til mid-Jan. so another...

Will the former largest lake in the western U.S. fill again?

An added problem is that so much groundwater has been pumped that the area has sunk so it has been a race to get the levees built back to the previous distance above sea level.

    Wildfires in Canada!

Interactive Canada Fire Map Bookmark this site as you can update the map when you want. A lot of layers can be selected. The fire history is useful when planning trips so you know the state of the forest. It is loading slow today- probably really being checked by more than usual.

Paddling a solo canoe with a Greenland style paddle?

BobB could add some incite but that would mean admitting he was using a double blade! Maybe he can do it if it is referred to as a GP.

    Wolves

My first close encounter with a wolf occurred September of 2004. It had rained so much that the trails to my cabin were being flooded with water. I began the task of digging channels so the water could drain out of the low spots. Much time was spent sitting around the cabin and sipping hot tea...

    Snake Stories

Being from northern IL snakes are not usually on my radar. Years ago down in the Everglades I left my wife at a visitor center and went out for a long run on the wide and bright shoulder of the highway. About three miles out with my cardiovascular system pumping near max from a good pace and a...

    Frying Pans

I have been using Roch Guss pans for a long time. My favorite is the 10 inch pan with the long wooden handle that can be easily removed for storage. With a good lid I can bake over a low stove setting. Coated aluminum and pretty light and does not scorch easily...
