    How's it hangin'?

I stated in a previous post that bears in WCPP are always running away from you. I do remember an evening when the bear was running at me. Light was fading fast and I was just finishing a smelly pot of Tuna Helper. A loud ruckus across the very narrow water I was camped on alerted me to...

    How's it hangin'?

I have spent over a year of camping nights in WCPP and have never hung a pack. Listen to what others have said here. I would add a few things. Be careful you are not using a shore lunch site. It should be obvious it is more than a campsite and you will only see these on lakes with large outpost...

    Quetico Questions?

Bob, you should plan to attend the Quiet Journey Dinner meals at the Country Inn in Menona on Fri. an Sat. during Canoecopia this March. You can gather from those present info they would never post on-line. A camp site they would post, that Walleye hot spot, not so much.

    Describe your seasons and climate

I was up at my northern MN cabin last week. It had been a mild early winter back home. Seemed harsh at the cabin but a few days and I was enjoying my evening tea outside at -17F. Heavy wool clothes and a proper attitude help to make it fun.

    Just ordered a SPOT II

Having a way to provide for your own rescue is job #1 for these devices. What they do the most though is give peace of mind to those back home. On another forum last fall a spouse was frantically seeking info on her husbands fate. Watching the weather she knew his route had been impacted. He was...

    Just ordered a SPOT II

I have a different way of looking at this. If you carry one of the devices you are truly on your own and can make contact for a rescue if needed. If you have no device a lot of people have their lives disrupted when you do not return as planned.

    Next years trips?

Plans are to explore some more in Atikaki PP. It is across the Manitoba border from Woodland Caribou PP. A lot of varied waters to explore but hard to get any info on routes or portages. They are there just no public info available.Tentative route flying into Brad and flying out of Scout.

What do you do about bringing food into Canada?

The border agents are just doing their jobs so be thankful for the ease that we have as canoeist. If every thing was enforced to the letter of the law we would need to hire a lawyer from each country to pack our food barrel.

What do you do about bringing food into Canada?

I got questioned more about food last year than I ever have. It was coming back into the US and the agent seemed to know canoeist would have some leftovers from their trip.

    GPS recommendation

If you have gone into the set up-heading menu and turned off the compass on the 62 and still only get 7 hours that assures me the compass is not eating the batteries. I was concerned because on my 62 I can find no way to control at what speed the electronic compass takes over. On the 60 I can...

    GPS recommendation

60csx is all I need. I suspect the electronic compass is always on with the newer models and draining the batteries. On the 60csx you can adjust when it takes over navigation.

    Pictograph Quest?

+1 for the Murdock and Artery Lake sites on the Bloodvein RIver in Woodland Caribou Provincial Park. A few days travel downstream in Manitoba you can travel up to the Sasaginnigak Lake area for a large site between that lake and Kawaseecheewonk Lake.

    Servus 15" Premium Rubber Boots

I have worn Servus boots for years and been very satisfied with them. I usually wear size 13 but find the size 12 perfect with two pair of thin socks. My feet get along well with them and I can walk all day in them. They last me many years and usually crack behind the toes where the boot flexes...

    Lows Lake deer camp 2017

Looks like a great time Robin. The hunt draws you out there but it is obvious a nice fall camp like that makes all the toil worthwhile.

    Coffee Press

I entered my new coffee process in the other coffee thread but think it solves a lot of the issues with making decent coffee in the bush. Coffee is added to a thermos and then hot water at your desired temperature is poured in. Five minutes later you have piping hot coffee and it stays that way...
