    Supernova Rigging

Thanks Robin and it would have probably helped had I not misspelled 'snivle' haha My Hennessy hammock works great here for my SW solo tripping. I almost never have to go to ground. There are lots of cottonwoods and tamarisk trees and failing that I get creative with boulders and such. The...

    Supernova Rigging

I worked on my boat rigging today. Finished gluing in the NRS PVC patch 1" 'D' rings and drilled the hull for the flotation bag cages. The 550 cord cages aren't quite done yet. I'm debating on drilling small holes in the thwarts for the top of the cage and I'll probably run a cam strap down the...

If you enjoyed Roberts you'll probably like Craig Childs as well :-)

    Where do you go tripping?

Traffic doesn't come into play here in the SW (except Lee's Ferry at times haha), but trips here usually involve a fair amount of windshield time. We feast or famine here, we're either river tripping for a couple weeks or nothing but paddling the mountain lakes. I envy those that have a...

    Paddling Lake Powell?

Thanks Skwid, I think :- ) That was a good/bad, what was the word used in the article? 'Haunting' reading experience. The wife and I have done the Colorado River of the Grand Canyon many times. The last trip was Oct/Nov 2015 and with the low water and obvious 'bathtub ring' as you approach...

****03/09 UPDATE**** Trip is now 04/07 to 04/18 Put in at Montezuma Creek, UT take out Clay Hills, UT. Trip gets stretched because I was able to secure lower canyon reserved camping at Slickhorn Canyon and also Oljeto Wash :- ) Right now the river is running about 1200, which is the...

    What are you reading?

For some historical fiction I enjoy Gary McCarthy, think of a grittier Louis L' Amour. Just finished 'The Gila River' from the 'river series', he also has a National Parks series that I liked. Surprisingly inexpensive on Kindle.

    Signs of Spring?

The shaggy bark ceder trees on our place have 'bloomed' and dumped their pollen in big smokey clouds and the wind blew 30 plus mph all day Sun :- )

    Weather radios and tripping

I'm an Amateur Radio operator and carry a submersible Yaesu VX-6, it has an extremely wide band pre-programed receiver and transmits in the 2m/70cm bands. It has an open band mod and transmits on Marine Band, FRS, GMRS, aviation bands along with the HAM bands. I carry a small gauge wire receive...

Too bad about your Salt trip I had one locked on too, but same story - ( Even the Gila drainage is dropping out fast which is why I poached a SJ. Doing the Gila for sure come monsoon season though. I'm happy I'm getting in a SJ this spring I'm busy myself getting a flip house ready for sale...

April 7 to April 14, San Juan Trip

Yep, thats it in a nutshell :- ) So far it's only 7 days because thats how the left over launch permit and lower canyon reserved camp worked out. Even at lower water 7 days isn't really rushed, the SJ is a fast river. Canoes make it faster yet. Total trip miles is actually 103 miles. I'm...

    More Efficient Paddling

This thread has been the most useful on the forum for me to date. Thanks to all :- ) To this point of my canoe 'career' I've been about a 75%/25%, moving-white water to flat water paddler. Since we moved to AZ I paddle way more flat water between river trips. That's the nature of SW canoe...
