If you could have only two canoes. . . .

I’m not so fussy about the canoe(s) as the place I get to paddle. It should be beautiful and have enough space to get away from the crowd. I’d rather paddle the old aluminum canoe my dad bought when I was 8, in a nice location, than paddle the best canoe in a big mud puddle.

    Dog food options

Zac, I have a friend who had his dog carry gear in packs, while he carried light weight dog food. It was fun, until the dog went off and lost the pack under a log or in a ravine or, well, somewhere. Now he carries the important stuff (food and gear—for himself and his pooch), and the dog...

Athabasca River - last paddle of 2018?

Beautiful. It’s sad when you’re pretty sure it’s going to be the last trip of the year, and yet wonderful that you get to savor it one more time.

Any interest in a group paddle in the Tetons?

Black_Fly, I live about 5 hours away, and just wanted a pretty place to paddle, and I succeeded. I had a great time. The campsites were beautiful. I had 2 pine marten go through camp one day. It might have been one that went through twice, but the first one looked tidy, and the second one...

    Seal River in Northern Manitoba

That was wonderful! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I’m not that modern of a person, and I’m certainly not a modern writer.). Having been to the Arctic a couple of times, I felt something deep inside when I looked at your pictures. I’m so glad that I didn’t find this post until it was complete, and therefore...

Sony's HX99 - high zoom, compact pocket camera

I have the Canon SX50, and have enjoyed using it to take pictures of bears and elk, etc., in Yellowstone. I enjoyed it enough that I wanted more zoom, so I got a Nikon P900, which has optical zoom to 83x. There’s a new Nikon1000 which has something like 125x zoom. I don’t know lots about...

    Madison River Montana

That’s so nice. Thank you for posting it. The low camera angle makes it seem intense. Maybe it was intense, but it seemed like from the regular vantage point a foot or two higher, things would come at you a little slower. I like the few times you changed the camera angle to face backwards...

    Madison River Montana

Nice video. The white cliffs look thermal in nature-are they?

    Lessons Learned

Is a wakeboard boat like a big jet ski? We had some folks racing around an area reservoir a couple of weeks ago, and they are still looking for one of the bodies. :-(

    'Quietly Contemplating Nature's Grandeur'

That was a wonderful read. I've gotten much better at finding things to occupy my campsite time. I had a great site in Yellowstone a couple of weeks aag. I had it for two nights. I left after one. I could say it was an impending thunderstorm, but I am mostly sure I just couldn't entertain...

    Horrible days are the best

I've heard fun is classed three ways. Type 1 fun is ride in amusement park, splash in the water fun. Type 2 fun is too long a portage, too high a climgclimgb too many bugs, too something , and Type 3 fun is what you lived through and don't want to do again. Type 2 is best. ☺

Any interest in a group paddle in the Tetons?

I just checked. Both sites have a maximum of four. :-( If you find out if you can make it... let me know.

I think this site can handle six, or maybe more. Steve in Idaho, you may know. I love your pictures, that

Any interest in a group paddle in the Tetons?

Yay! I mentioned the trip at a meeting and I now have a lady from work and her husband going along. I asked my boss, and she is interested, but she has to wait to try to schedule with her husband. I
