    New menber from North Carolina

I'm in Springville (down US 219). Only been here a few months. For 30 years we lived across the valley from Kissing Bridge and could watch skiers on Holly. My wife can't drive after dark so we downsized and moved into the village so she can walk. Our oldest son only lives a few blocks from us...

    The Winter Shed

My son and I have talked about doing something similar to use as a warming shed in deer season and as a winter week-end hang out. There is an old woodshed we have used before during winter but not close enough to the shooting lanes and it needs a lot (whole lot) of work. That's one of the...

    Hardwater

No ice yet. I am trying to wait patiently for snow to come. Haven't been able to ski the past 2 seasons:( (physical issues) and I will be going this year regardless of what the DR tells me in Nov. If he says NO, I will most likely have to lie to my wife.

Poll: How old were you when you got YOUR OWN first canoe (and what was it)?

My wife and I bought our 1st canoe in 1972, a Grumman 17J that had only been used for 10 days and we were the ones using it. Still have the wife and the canoe. Just wish I still had the "71 Duster we used to haul it home.

What do you drink on a trip?

I'm boring: black coffee (pressed) in the morning; lots of water during the day; hot tea in the evening if the weather is cool and/or damp. No booze.

Everyone takes a knife with them, right ?

Usually carry several knives when tripping: a basic SAK; a larger folding lock back; river shorty on my PFD; A hefty sheath knife in the food barrel for processing firewood. If fishing is on the agenda a filet knife comes along.

    New from Central PA

Welcome Al :). This is a great place to learn. Lots of knowledge is here. I'm an old western PA boy and spent my formative years on the banks of the Shenango River where I developed my love of flowing water. As a tweener we moved to Oil City about 2 blocks from the Allegheny and I fell in...

Help ID this old canoe (urgent update page 3) :)

From your photos, your canoe looks similar to a Pere Marquete that I had It was free with some poorly done patches. My intent was to fix the fixes, pull the gunnels 2-3 inches, and try to turn it into a solo. Never got to it so one of my sons took it and is almost with the repairs.

My First Paddle of the Season

I'm envious! Looks like my 1st season paddle will be July 4th week-end and that will be on a 2 acre farm pond.

I'm finally able to get back on line!!!

What a winter:eek:! 1st my laptop died and lost a lot of data. Then bought another house (downsizing) and real estate transfers in NY are difficult to say the least. Then came remodeling, redecorating, and bringing plumbing and electric up to code. Finally moved in March 23. March 26 had...
