    Why Are You Here?

Don't remember exactly when or how I stumbled into the site. I was disgusted with "the other site" and think I read something by or about Mike McCrea and followed my nose.

Leave No Trace pledge to pick up trash

Sometimes picking up bobbers can pay off. Many, many (and many more) years ago I was teaching a friend how to stern a canoe on a small PFBC lake. As we were just floating and discussing the whats and hows I noticed a bobber bumping the side of the canoe. I grabbed the bobber and started to...

    Solitude isn't for everyone

I prefer paddling solo but thoroughly enjoy having someone , depending on who, to talk to in camp. When my wife was still able to participate, tandem was great and I really didn't want anyone else in camp.

    Must have medical items?

Seems like the older I get, the bigger my 1st aid kit gets. As an insulin dependent diabetic, I don't go far or long w/o test kit or insulin pens, + 6 RX's (13 pills) everyday. Gettin' old ain't for sissies.

I think it's time to say hello, finally

I think it's time to say hello, finally

Welcome Andre. My mother was an English teacher and she was always correcting my grammar (both verbal and written). She would have been happy if I wrote as well as you. Gorgeous photos BTW. Jon

How do you make a fire when it's wet?

If all my normal fire starting practices fail, I resort to a squirt of hand sanitizer and use my MSR pocket rocket as a blow torch.

    It's going away

Getting old is not for sissies!:( Used to be able to portage my old 85# Grumman 2+ miles with only one break (gotta pee). By my mid 60's it was a chore to get it off the rack on the side of the garage and onto the truck. Since open heart surgery 2 1/2 yrs ago, it now belongs to my eldest son...

    New member from Michigan

Watching you with Lexie sure made miss my old Lab. She didn't want to stay in the canoe, she'd rather swim. Look forward to watching more with your pup..

    Any new "Toys" for Christmas?

I trust my sons to know what I want/need and be sure their mother knows specifically what the items are.

    How long is your streak?

I had a 30 yr streak going until 2019 ( open heart surgery in March) and cardiologist frowned on any canoe tripping that year. Now, despite Covid, I'm on a 1 year streak. WOW!

    Any new "Toys" for Christmas?

Sadly, no new camping/canoeing toys this year. Guess I'll have to go buy some for myself:D

    3 Canoes on 1 roof

Used to do this years ago hauling 3 Grummans to Algonquin on an old '65 Ford Ranch Wagon. We didn't even use rope or straps... just bailing twine. Sounds crazy but then we were young and not so bright (but never lost a canoe).

    Misplaced Shop "Things"

Over the last 50 years, I have purchased lots of tools (some multiple times) because "somebody else" borrowed it and never returned it, I have more tape measures, hammers, power drills (both corded and cordless), squares, drill bits (all sorts), and wood chisels than I will ever use again. The...
