    Decked Kruger Seawind style build

Doug that was awesome, beautiful area too, wow. I was waiting for you to bust out the flyrod tho :) Mem, I couldn't say this design is fast, but digging in I've clocked it to 6mph and change with a pretty good load. It does feel as though it cruises well with steady effort if that makes sense...

    NorthWind blowing in Fl...

Trying to avoid snaps if I can help it, but they may be unavoidable. Still experimenting, which was part of the impetus for the gadget bar, which will clamp the front half down pretty tight. If I make a slightly smaller bar for behind the seat (would be outfitted with post to accept 360 degree...

    NorthWind blowing in Fl...

its been a while, but back to tinkering with a few things I never closed off on. First is the spray skirt, after much angst and a lot more procrastination I decided to just evolve my rain cover, which is discussed earlier in the build. I'll make another rain cover out of a lighter fabric like...

    Build or buy?

I'll be watching, always intrigued by the osprey design. Lately my son keeps wanting to borrow my hemlock peregrine too. Might need to build him an osprey so I can use my peregrine when we paddle together...

yer right doug I did, but didn't want to get into all that above, since you mentioned it tho, here it is from 9/1/18, turned out to be a very good test of this design...

    Decked Kruger Seawind style build

Mark, it looks great on and off the water. I remember my first water test too, its a great feeling to finally sit in the dang thing, on the water after toiling so many hours in the garage. I haven't done more than about 25 miles over the course of about 7-8hrs or so in mine. Hoping to change...

    Build or buy?

For a light solo I'd be inclined to buy a known performer used.

    Everglades Solo Gone Wrong

my main point about inexperienced solo's was meant to go with others that's have done a few glades trips. Having multiple inexperienced people doesn't help a whole lot. Totally agree about the chickee's, they are anything but paddle craft friendly, esp at low tide. lol, you need orangutan upper...

    Everglades Solo Gone Wrong

Mike, plenty of power boaters find all sorts of ways to get into trouble down there too. Obviously, paddling adds another order of magnitude to the challenges. imo first timers and inexperienced paddlers should never do the glades solo.

Land and Sea - Canoeing down the Churchill River - 1975

    Everglades Solo Gone Wrong

I've been fishing and hunting (the huntable parts) the everglades since the mid 60's. I knew not closely, but ran into Totch Brown here and there on Chokoloskee back in the 70's and early 80's. Actually went for a boat ride with him in the mid 90's as a wedding gift. Turned out my fiance's best...

    Everglades kayak rescue

lol, I wasn't sure where to post it. Given the relatively placid area he was paddling medical issue more plausible than capsize and separation. Plus there is so much shore line close by to swim to and In that particular area the shoreline at the mangroves is mostly very shallow. He would just...

    Everglades kayak rescue

Not a canoe but still a paddler. No idea how he got separated from his kayak, but looks like he was well inside in Cross Bay which is just north of the east end of Lopez river just a little north of the marked wilderness waterway. Its all calm protected and shallow in there. He probably could...

    Decked Kruger Seawind style build

congrats on a fine build. Was fun for me to see someone else build one and how you approached the various challenges along the way. Canoe is beautiful, you did a great job. Plenty of open water down in here in Fl. If you ever think about getting down this way give me a heads up and we'll put a...

    Fire Irons

for cooking on ground fires i have back pack able ss and titanium grates, a small titanium firebox and recently been using these ss grates with folding legs, super simple and pack easily, esp canoe or truck camping. They come in 3 sizes, I have the middle one. Works really well, been leaving the...

    Decked Kruger Seawind style build

Mark, fwiw I can get in and out of mine on dry land by resting my full weight (215lbs) with my hands on the combing like parallel bars. I can sit anywhere on my deck too and not be concerned. Admittedly I purposely over built mine, but I still came in under 60lbs. To me over building made sense...
