I did see this before i started and considered it, this must be what you mean, i wasn't sure which i like better to be honest, and most new models seem to have inwales pass all the way. but i do like the simplicity of this.

Not sure I can visualize that, i will have to look around, I just looked at photos of other NorthStar boats and mimic them, this is kind of what I had seen for the most part.

Alan, i didn't like the idea of a notch in the gunwale for a few reasons, I notched my canoe instead and reinforced that area with some glass. I know most would say not to do this, but it just seemed easier, and I didn't like the idea of a tiny piece of gunwale hanging out past the boat with so...

Off topic a little, but any thoughts on how to finish the ends of the gunwales and the exposed kerf?

Does anyone happen to have a spare 4" seat truss similar to northstars that they could perhaps trace out on paper and scan it and upload for me, I'd like to build a set myself. I believe my seat is 8.5" on center, but something to use as a template would get me started.

I have several flavors of Watco teak i will take a look and see how they look on a sample piece, my gunwales are in place now and decks soon, so I still have some time to decide. looking around I've noticed finding Watco exterior finish is not easy.

I have seen the Watco Danish in walnut, but it does list it as interior oil, and the only place I've ever used Danish was indoors, so I wasn't certain this would work.

I have a Kevlar canoe with new ash gunwales I'm installing, and I would like to stain them darker to match the walnut decks, if my goal was to finish everything with something like a Watco, what could I use to stain them darker prior? I would prefer not to varnish them because I really don't...
