Poll: Tobacco & nicotine, and canoe stories about use

I haven't had a cigarette for 20+ years. I switched to Backwoods cigars, but then switched to a pipe. I find I don't use as much tobacco. I don't smoke unless I'm sitting in a pleasant spot and most of all I don't smoke out in the cold, so basically quit every winter. I also make offerings of...

Fears while paddling or on canoe trips

@Black_Fly I agree with your first two but... 1. I don't paddle with a dog 2. I don't really worry about failing, I've had a few trips that I failed to complete the paddle/hike as planned. Regroup, Adapt, Overcome because it's all about spending time in the Backcountry. I look for bailout...

Your canoe trip plans, hopes, dreams for 2022

I'm trying not to think about it, I need a hernia repair and of course, the hospitals are full of anti-vaxxers, so I'm on a waitlist.

    Comfortable Belt

I bought one of the Strapworks.com web belts, they are thin and the buckles are weak. The one I linked above is a great belt and has a lot of uses as a sling.

    Canoe Cart

I like this type, I've used it on 3-4, 2 mile carries. This newer version has solid tires, not pneumatic.

Carrying a gun when canoe traveling just because

Just to hit the extremes here, I knew a guy that carried a 5' Broadsword while hiking in the Whites Mtns of NH. He'd whip it out for his summit pictures.

Carrying a gun when canoe traveling just because

I was asked once by a local if I carried when I walked in the woods behind my house because of a long history of Catamounts in the area. I reply that I did not A while later I took a 9mm with me. It just didn't feel right the whole hike and I never took it again, even after some months later I...

Source for wool coats on the cheap

I've had a lot of luck finding them for free. Several years ago I found a Large Woolrich Jacket in the free section of the dump and last year found another Large Johnson jacket with the local Rod & Gun club parch on it and a half dozen wool pants free on the side of the road at a house cleanout.

    Done With It

Sounds like this is spreading. I'm retired but was working part-time (when I felt like it) with another guy making Adirondack Chairs from Wine Barrels. It just got to be too much. It's amazing how much work you can get done around the house when your wife goes to work and you have the house to...
