Canoe Lake, Big Trout Lake Loop

Portages don't bother me, I just plan around them. On our last trip this year, we did a 3500m and as a bonus, we got to do it in the rain. I was thinking of the last week in June going out through Potter, Brule, McIntosh L, Grassy...

Canoe Lake, Big Trout Lake Loop

Clockwise or Counter? I am thinking of Counter Clockwise and disappearing up Potter's to escape the crowds as soon as possible and come back against the grain. How does that work with paddling upstream? The only thing I see is between BigTrout and Otterslide.

    No More Tripping Yet Here?

I'm still young enough (68) to not worry too much about the end of my tripping days. I have a couple of really light boats and just need to work a bit harder on the planning of my trips, not to over-extend myself, and when you put it all together shorter days of paddling lead to longer trips...

    What are you reading?

Winter is coming and if you're looking for an excellent book to read try the true story, "Born to Be Hanged": 'The Epic Story of the Gentlemen Pirates Who Raided the South Seas, Rescued a Princess, and Stole a Fortune by Keith Thomson.' I listened to this book on my way back from GA. This crew...

    Frying Pans

Although I may or may not be the provider of pans, I blame Robin for introducing me to the pan, I can't help it if people outside this group can't figure out the value of these pans and purveyors of second-hand goods can't sell them except by reducing the price.

    Frying Pans

I guess you could take Cast Iron if you want to portage all the extra weight but want to have an even heat transfer in the pan. I like the Cold Handle Pans when I do take a pan. I think this is a 10" pan

How much do you baby your composite boat on shore? (susceptibility to scratches?)

Scratches add character. I don't baby my canoes but I don't abuse them either. If you're worried about scratches Bill Swift will tell you, Two Tone Colour Because scratches on your boat always appear white, we offer a Champagne coloured bottom to keep your boat looking newer, longer and to...

Rec Barrel Works - Expedition Canoe Pack

I like barrels and there are a lot of good reasons to use them. I have 3 all with good harnesses but I don't like the barrel digging in on my spine. One of the barrels is hooked up to an old wooden pack frame that rides great but the frame weighs 5 pounds so it only goes on trips with few carries.

Cold handle frying pans, they’re still out there.

CHFPs are one of the first things I look for in second-hand stores.

    Yet another Whitney Loop TR

In one day? I won't do it even if I could, I try to find ways to extend my trips and I like to spend my Carries looking at the vegetation.

    Yet another Whitney Loop TR

We spent the third night at the primitive site on Bog Pond. A little note here about the site: There is a fire ring in the field but after the downpour of that day the field was running water and had no place to hang a hammock. We started to look around for a dryer spot to stay. I found what...

    Yet another Whitney Loop TR

There have been some really great TRs about the Whitney Loop, this is not going to be one of them. We left from the Park Headquarters around 11 AM on the 17th of Sept R-L Me, my son Josh, and his friend Mike. I'm paddling a Keywaydin 15, They are in a Souris River Quetico 17. Little Tupper was...
