    A Raven for Christmas

Yes I figure I'll dry fit my outer stems, mark them and then work in my accent strip, so I get it straight. And then I'll install my outer stems. Going to be hard to cough up money on the glass and epoxy after I blew 500$ on the Demonic Subaru. I hate that car.

I'm a little stuck and looking for advice. I want to incorporate this accent strip down the center of the keel from stem to stem. Should I dry fit my outer stems first and then work in the accent strip? Roy

Paint! I thought yours turned out very well. You were my inspiration to build one myself.

Thanks for the input. I need to tilt it way up on the side so I can look at the chime area. I may need to rework some of that. I thought I was doing good but now I question it.

I didn't explain it well, sorry. My strips are a quarter of an inch further from center then the other side. I botched it from the start near chime. This thing got a chime like my aunts over bite.

Hmm 🤔 got to do me some thinking on this. I think it's shaping up pretty good. First thing I noticed was the bow In this area on both sides, the light poplar strip is a little sunken in and slopes, slightly, inward where it meets the cherry strip. Both sides are the same in the same spot...

    Canoe Makeover

Is the wood trim any heavier? I prefer wood over aluminum or plastic. The wood trim looks really nice on it. Warm looking. Roy

My wife claims that during his 2nd term, he was coming out to give a speech and stood on the wrong side of the podium facing away from the audience. She said Nancy came out and turned him around, and he stated, "Oh there you are", and went on with his speech. My wife said I was watching it with...

I gave up with the upward swoop of bow strips. I tried narrower strips but they just kinked and twisted. I taped a few horizontal strips in to see how it was going to look It looked way to busy.I went with a wider strips with a narrow sliver of walnut in-between It is coming along as planned 👍...

First time builder Ashes Solo Trip

Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating sloppiness, but sometimes it's hard to get things to cooperate and wood can have a mind of it's own. Stuff Happens. I am building my 2nd canoe now, and thought I would do some fancy strip pattern on the bow, and now I figured out I can't keep going with...

Hello and welcome Bentpushrod. I used thickened epoxy on my gaps of my stemless build. I could've done better with the color match, but hey, If someone has to look that close to point it out it's time for them to leave. You can see the little darker spots where I filled gaps. There were two...

Thanks Mem, I didn't think about using narrower strips. Excellent advice. Gee thanks Gamma, I'm the guinea pig on this one. Oh well some idiot has to try it first. I think I'll stay horizontal all the way to the stern. I might try some type of inlay pattern on the bottom. I'm going to have lots...

I left the pads on. Better grip, less damages and keeps the tube from sliding off. I used them when I built my first canoe 3 years ago. Been in a box with the tubes since then. They help hold the strips in place while I staple the strips to the forms. A little extra squeeze goes a long way. I...

    A Raven for Christmas

Eew, lots of screws and staples, but it'll be ok. Maybe? Anyhow is this messed up idea I had with a strange flow of strips on the bow going to work? or is it just a Picasso brain fart I had. I'm afraid it's going to pop like a chubby girls girdle when I break it loose? It'll look cool 😎 if it...
