    Canoe Tripping Fundraiser & Raffle

Well, as I get a lot of enjoyment from the site and the folks here I guess I can get off my duff long enough to make someone a reflector oven. This one is 15" wide, 8-38" deep and 12" high. It will hold up to a 1/4 size sheet pan (half the size of a home oven sheet pan) and the stainless...

Why you shouldn't paddle a kayak....

They're on the rack next to the other winter kilts. Come to think of it, a wool kayak might go well with my sons and nephews in their kilts at the next reunion....if the kayak is in the correct clan tartan. I can see it now "Gee Uncle Lance, what are you wearing under your kayak?" I can't...

Why you shouldn't paddle a kayak....

Gee, Dan Was that the Kayak expedition mother ship?? See what happens when you kayak?! Actually, Nancy and I were primarily kayakers until a year and a half ago. I just felt like stirring the pot a bit.... Seeing that picture with the slope in the background makes me wonder if the 23...

    DIY No-Sewing Spray Covers

Thanks, Mike for the update. I could lend you a framing nail gun to tack the Dual Lock back on. I'm thinking that 2-3/8" hot galvanized ring shank nails will do the trick.... Or not..... Lance

    Any new "Toys" for Christmas?

None of it exactly directly canoe related....or at least not yet. We got a new grandson who was born to my youngest son and his wife last night (January 2). We have a son with January 2 as his birthday as does one of Nancy's brothers. The newborn is their second to go with their daughter and...

Jokes and Laughter for the Day

Priceless! Nancy says that if we still had our Central New York farm she would let me do that in the first week of deer season in a heartbeat....... Best regards, Lance

Found another option for a fry pan

That pan has a good reputation among the bushcraft community. I know Coleman's had the 10" one in the past. I don't know if I've seen a 12" one before. Mike, the frame on these has a built in cargo shelf on the bottom and it secures a barrel well, especially a barrel with side handles...

Unusual source for a new 60L blue barrel

And will the after action report be up to the Mike M standard? It's unlikely that any of mine ever will be as I suck at stopping during projects for either pictures or notes. Lance

Unusual source for a new 60L blue barrel

That's good. I was hoping that I hadn't gotten you into a not so good good deal. I noted that there were mixed no and yes answers to the question about waterproofness. And I would note that lots of research indicates that unhappy customers are far, far more likely to post a complaint than...

    DIY No-Sewing Spray Covers

To throw my three cents in (note the inflation here) how about a silver metallic Sharpie? Or a silver metal marking welding pencil, although it would wear down pretty quickly so you would want to make a fine line. Lance

Unusual source for a new 60L blue barrel

Thanks, Dan I wonder if they didn't spring for the fitted conformal gasket due to cost and the intended use? I'd like to get a look at one to see what the deal is but I have five 60L barrels now. Some, most really, of my used barrels had leaking gaskets when I got them and I used neoprene...

Unusual source for a new 60L blue barrel

I'm glad it helped someone. I stumbled on it so other than posting it I sure won't claim any credit for finding it. I was actually looking for wine barrel stave project ideas and trying fairly random searches for unusual project ideas and I suppose the fact I was shopping at HD.com for some...

Unusual source for a new 60L blue barrel

OK, as a retired (reformed?) home builder and contractor I sometimes spot oddball things that catch my eye. A case in point: I stumbled on this while looking for something utterly unrelated on homedepot.com...

    DIY No-Sewing Spray Covers

Good thoughts. If you want to be sure to have a strong enough ring a tie down I have a big ammo can full of these guys up to about 3" wide strap size. With enough G/Flex they should work out fine.... https://www.mcmaster.com/3028T57/

    DIY No-Sewing Spray Covers

Thanks, Mike I was hoping the Dual Lock worked and will be really interested to see how it works over time. I have been kind of ruminating over sewing plain back Dual Lock on the inside of a spray cover in strips like you used and putting vertical clear Dual Lock strips on the hull to allow...
