    Lake Superior Water Trail

Will definitely watch Song of The Paddle as well. What a treasure to have this programming available. Had "Paddle To The Sea" playing in the background this past, overcast, Saturday as I worked away in my studio...Albeit quite distracted though. What a treat this stuff is!

    Lake Superior Water Trail

Watched all of Waterwalker this weekend and what a beautifully honest film. Will definitely be seeking out more CNFB features as winter sets in. Thanks for the link FT. The thought of a Lake Superior trip still rattles me but hope to start with a day trip or two this summer with my existing...

Epitome of bleak. Typical northern MN lake in November.

Thanks for noticing gumpus! I've inherited this genetic anomaly as well so when the moon is full you will find us paddle-in-foot/feet, making our way across the water. Oh gosh...I better post a reasonable photo quick and get this thread back on track.

    Closing out our paddling season

Yup, cold up here in the MN northwoods. We are over by Itasca supposedly deer hunting but I seriously can't find my shells so dug the canoe out of the frozen leaf litter & went for a paddle instead. Might just have to misplace my shells every year. A Big thanks as well for your clean-up work!

    Lake Superior Water Trail

Thanks FT for the links. At lunch now and watched about 5 minutes of Waterwalker. The shots of him within the swells are really helpful in preparing one's mind for that type of water. Will watch the entire thing a couple weeks out from now. I know what you mean by CNFB "atmosphere" as it...

    Lake Superior Water Trail

Thanks for the link to your trip journal DuctTape. Lots of info there so will dig into it after this weekend. Passing over a shipwreck would be unnerving for whatever illogical, psychological reason no doubt. Ooooooooh the Adirondacks you lucky soul! I traveled out there (between Wilmington &...

    Lake Superior Water Trail

Just finished the video (that frosentripper referenced) and kudos to them for not manufacturing drama for the camera as I bet there were many more tense moments than what appeared. Very well done and sweet! I aspire to be Canadian... Considering myself somewhat of a minimalist in the woods I...

    Lake Superior Water Trail

I hope to watch that video tonight to see how a potential trip sits in my gut. Superior sure does beckon. Kind of like a mythical Siren...alluring with an alterior motive involving freakish death. That whole Duluth North Shore environment is amazingly dynamic. A real outdoor playground. Where...

    Lake Superior Water Trail

Thanks yellowcanoe for your thoughts. I called the park system to send me hard copies of the 4 maps and sometimes pull them out for brief moments however anxiety takes over so shove them back into the envelope and then into the bottom drawer. Just getting through the Duluth/Superior harbor is...

    Lake Superior Water Trail

Anybody done this? Any last parting words as I contemplate this for next summer? 150 miles...zero portages...really big water. I lived in Duluth for a spell and have spent many vacations up there however have a hard time visualising any craft smaller than the SS Edmund Fitsgerald on ole Gitche...

    Photo of the day

Thanks on my Mom's behalf for the b-day wish. Agreed...lofty reincarnation aspirations for her being Lutheran and all. Also, nice tip with the fuel can as I typically store my 2-stroke oil and bar lube either in the corregations of the pickup bed or upholstery of my SUV.

    Photo of the day

Yeah I know this one is sappy but my Mom's birthday is next week and her plan is to be reincarnated as a sunfish. Not certain what that has to do with tripping but the photo has a canoe in the lower right corner. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MiMi!!

Solo in September minus the elegance of my youth.

Still have not figured out the selective quoting feature so to clarify my initial comment on "greatest generation" it could've been insulting as I'm off a generation there. Good thing we all have canoes to re-set our soul's clock. Or better yet, unravel time all together...

    What is it!

I agree the shape certainly looks Core Craft-ish but also believe all the CCs I've ever seen have the elongated diamond shape molded into the sides so I too am uncertain. No doubt designs changed over the decades. Here is an excerpt I found online concerning their all-fiberglass build... By the...

    New to the forum

Welcome OBryan :) I'm think'n it's a Core Craft out of Bemidji which means fiberglass. I'm not certain the used market for canoe accessories (paddles, jackets) in Utah so don't have any suggestions there. As far as number of people your canoe will float in The Great Salt Lake, I'm guessing...
