Truckers Hitch can be made with any secure loop. I use the Alpine Butterfly just because I like it and it's simple to tie and quite secure. Give it a try The straps I purchased have loops at both ends so it's just a matter of a truckers hitch and I have the canoe tied down.

These straps will go over the canoe and I'll attach rope from the strap to tie down points on my truck.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and really helpful information. It's a great forum I think at this point I'll borrow a double and carry it as an emergency paddle and also use it going against the current to see if I like it and if it's any advantage to me in that situation

My immediate options seem to be to avoid going up river in water faster 3mph. And probably a double would help me out. How does a double work kneeling in a boat like a Flashire? The other options presented are probably better suited for my more long term plan.

Love it. Quite easy to put up , maybe ten minutes. A couple of mods and it would go together in five. The material on top is slippery and that could be changed. But it's a joy to sleep on. Check out the video. If you stand (or kneel) as he is doing during assembly it goes together quite easily...
