    My first wanigan experience

Just be careful on the dimensions and build it at least 1" less than where it will sit on the canoe. I built one last summer for my raven but forgot to take into account the inner gunwales on the canoe and wood bits on the wannigan so it will only fit length wise. It does fit nicely in my...

    My first wanigan experience

I built 2 "canoe boxes" of gil gilpatrick's design. They fit coleman stove in its edge and a while lot more. I started a flatter one like the one you're mentioning, but I got the dimensions wrong (too big) and scrapped it. These boxes ride high but work great.

    My first wanigan experience

Chip, functionally there's no difference but UV damaged rubbermaid doesn't get the same patina.

Is it legal to make composite canoe off an existing design?

Thanks, some of your builds got me thinking about this even before the raven was completed.

Is it legal to make composite canoe off an existing design?

So I have an OT Appalachian that's 76# that I really enjoy and a raven stripper that I built last winter at 59# (I'm still not sure how I will do with it in the very bony sections of the Allagash). Can I legally use the Appalachian as a male mold to make a composite version?

Machias River canoe trip, “Pole, paddle and portage”

I want to do this trip. I was looking at the route on my gazetteer and it looks like there are a number of roads you can use to adjust the length of the trip.

    Bent Shaft Paddles

I've done a few crude bird's mouth paddle shafts. I found it quite fiddly and didn't want to take the time to get it right. If you're going to do these, I think you'd want to make enough stock for quite a few paddle shafts to make it worth your while. Unless you're can soak this stuff in a lot...

    Bent Shaft Paddles

I'm glad I ran across this thread! The phenolic tip with glass overlay makes sense. Is the phenolic plastic flexible at all? I ask because my paddles are getting beat along the sides as well as the bottom edge so running that up the edges should help reduce the damage.

First stripper build: Prospector-16 Help & comments appreciated

I agree, if there's a lot of sand at least 2 coats of epoxy on the bottom

    A lightweight "stand-up-able" solo canoe?

Since I've been cranking along in my royalex Appalachian (16' x 36") I'm not worried about speed (yet). I plan on trying hard to make my new raven stripper work but I am concerned my 6'2" 235# carcass isn't going to be able paddle it standing up or poling. Maybe it will become my wife's canoe
