Adirondack Mtn West Canada Lake Wilderness

Of the three abandoned trails in the Cedar/Pillsbury/Whitney triangle, I only traveled from Pillsbury Bay to Pillsbury and from it's intersect south of the beaver meadow, west to Whitney. I did not traverse the trail from the east side of Whitney to the French Louie trail. The bay to meadow...

Adirondack Mtn West Canada Lake Wilderness

Difficult to say for sure but using the dividers on the map and following the route I took it would be conservative to say that I covered 28 miles on foot. Even harder to know the paddled distance but I'm guessing it was near the same, so maybe 50/50 or 56 miles over the five days. Much of my...

156 miles on the Connecticut River

I enjoyed this report a great deal; it is good to know that there can be harmony betwixt canvas and composite folks.

Adirondack Mtn West Canada Lake Wilderness

An adventure that began and ended at the Pillsbury Mountain trailhead, I ventured into the West Canada Lake Wilderness of New York's Adirondack Mountains to explore some of its lakes, ponds and unique history. https://picasaweb.google.com/114267878012874538920/WestCanadaLakeWilderness#

Digestive changes while on the trail

I have no idea what it is or where to find it in bulk. ~I have never used a wag bag so I'm not sure of the make up of the poo power at the bottom. I've always assumed it might be similar to the stuff we used on vomit at the University. We called it pixy dust but its name is Supersorb. On...

    Dam Beavers

~~It was reported yesterday 6/19 that the beaver carcase that was recovered from the site of the attack was tested and found to be rabid.

Desert SW travels and 3 weeks on the Green River

OK... OK... I get it, as the "Fairy of the Canyon" you have to be civil and welcoming... live and let live, and all that... retribution mustn't overtake its redresser. However, a festooned bandoleer across the chest of an avenging Duckhead might sell your story to Hollywood.

Desert SW travels and 3 weeks on the Green River

Very entertaining! But how did you extract revenge on the guy from Deadhorse? I know the nature of your soul and though you bore his denial of access, the best you could. We both know, the "Hermit Fairy of the Canyon", at length, would be avenged. Please tell us more, is the craphead...

    Adirondack adventure

There would be a lot fewer emergency calls to SlidingRockFalls if it were renamed Rump Ripper Falls. Maybe there has been a geological shift since its naming but I can't see how the arse catcher half way could be avoided. Yes, the green canoe you question is a Yellowstone Solo.

    Adirondack adventure

A bit of Sailor Jerry is poured into a titanium cup with the dried apples at the beginning of that evening's meal preparation. By the time the dishes are done the apples have softened somewhat and their flavor has mingled with the rum. It taste best with freeze-dried apples but either will work.

Never tapped into them! How is that possible? I thought you raised two young boys. You must have done something wrong. My newest favorite brew comes from Utah... called Hopnosh 7.3% ALC. and comes in a can! Uinta Brewing Co. Earth, Wind and Beer I think your boys might like it... but maybe...

    Adirondack adventure

Source of the Sixmile May 11-14, 2014 Paul Conklin (Curtis Mayfly) I bushwhack with a small canoe; this allows the advantage of traversing wet areas with relative ease. Beavers and the work they do are beneficial to my mode of travel. I have long sought to explore the marshes southwest of...

    Solo portage yoke

Glenn, I am in total agreement with the aft storage of the unutilized yoke. I too am annoyed by asymmetrical aesthetics of stowed gear but in the 12½ foot Mayfly, compromise was necessary. I have found however, that the flat of the inverted yoke in front of me is a convenient and dry...

    Solo portage yoke

Solo canoe carry yoke There are things I load within in the canoe on a portage (paddle, PFD, bailer etc.). Sometimes I carry a spare paddle, other times I don't. I have dried my laundry by hanging it from a thwart. The location and weight of cargo items is not consistent and a balance...

    Four Bluebird Days at Assateague

I just applied the first coat of varnish on my canoe; it was time to vacate the shop and allow the Volatile Organic Compounds time to settle. What do you do when the risk of brain damage keeps you out of the shop? I saw an opportunity to work on the distruction of an organ of far less...

    Gyr Build

I just finished applying the second coat of Easypoxy to the interior. I am liking the look very much. It had been my intent to paint the interior from the get go. I had seen it done and thought it made sense, easier to apply than varnish. The paint was given to me so I went with something...

The mass has exceeded the limit of my shop scale (25 pounds) so I have not been able to weigh it since the interior was glassed. I could have fussed with the wife's bathroom scale but I'm not sure of its accuracy, it seems to read low. Adjusting the calibration would probably piss her off; she...

    Gyr Build

Ready for the finish room! If only I had one, it would be nice to move to a clean room for varnish work. The next move of the Gyr will be out the door and to the water. No need to rush, there's still ice on the lake. Updated album here...

I should say that I'm not anti squeegee. I have one at the ready throughout the whole process and use it, as you say to squeeze excess. It's just that I have never been adept at using one to distribute resin, especially in the wet out process. The roller has been my tool of choice for...

Doug, Please don't give up! I am a faithful follower of Scooters adventures. The knowledge I have gleaned from your exploits has been invaluable if not life saving! For example, the snow build-up on my roof will have to wait for a thaw, I no longer rip gunwales with a chainsaw and I...
