    Stakes

I like this idea! The tarp peices would protect against cuts and it is a very simple thing to do. I have used a full trad rack of rock climbing gear to secure a tent/gear and canoe during one stormy adventure. Used a couple cams to anchor a canoe on a waterfront climb too!

    Water Proof Backpack/Bag

Thanks but I need the carry gear with a hipbelt and suspension so the weight won't be on my back/shoulders. The MEC one is great, just heavy due to the materials used.

    Stakes

I find a few (5) sections of strong light cord have been a huge help for me when stuck on rocky ledges etc. Just run one from the corner of the tent to a chock stone or tree. Shorter loops if you just want to tie into loose rocks etc. Still take a few alum light stakes with but more as a backup.

    Water Proof Backpack/Bag

I have been using this for a solo single cary system for the season- http://www.mec.ca/product/5030-380/mec-slogg-deluxe-70-dry-pack/ It is a 70lt drybag with an internal frame. Mine is the grey color that was on discount for $108 but looks like they dont have that color anymore :( Was a great...

5th trip Report- Caddy Lake and some fun weather

[QUOTE=Odyssey;n14549]Nice trip, and really nice photos Ice. Seeing shots taken in inclement weather gives a good feeling for the whole experience. Those calm grassy shallows sure look alluring, just waiting to be explored. I love the videos too. Awesome feeling going through that tunnel! Around...

5th trip Report- Caddy Lake and some fun weather

The Railway is still in use. I could have been in the tunnel when a train went over but was escorting the couple back to the beach landing. The sculpted Portage yoke is great. I just wish they could replicate it using a foam core with a matching carbon fiber exterior! That would hopefully be way...

5th trip Report- Caddy Lake and some fun weather

Caddy Lake, South Cross lake, North Cross Lake and Sailing Lake with a bit of wind and rain... A wickedly fun/challenging trip. Had to fight a head wind for the whole trip in (14.7km) and a strong tail wind on the return. 35km in total with approximately 200m in nice portages. Set up...

    Biggest gear challenge?

A good pair of boots is my last thing to find. I have the rest of the wish list sorted out and just need to find a good comfy pair of gore waterproof hiking boots. Have a Neoair pad, helinox chair, good 70lt dry bag with a hip belt and internal frame (cheap at mec). Have picked out the new tent...

    "Borrowing" photos on the internet

I am guilty of saving pictures from the web on items of interest. On days where I am sick at home (today) I can scroll through and build plans for future trips or for items that I want to add or modify to meet my needs. I would not feel comfortable showing others pictures on a trip report of...

    Bear Attack?

I can do that:cool: A <0.14" group at 100y. Just never when stressed! I think a firearm brings peace of mind when you know you are capable of defending yourself against a predator. I hope one will never need it but the security it brings is worth the weight! Good to see your Tracker II comes...

    Bear Attack?

Would be great to see how many neighbours you have in the backyard woods!;) Wolfs just want to lick your face and curl up at your feet at night, no worries. This was taken just below the 20' falls shown on my second trip report during a winter visit out that way. I had something with...

    Bear Attack?

The bears won't have a chance to get in because the snappers are cleaning up faster than the mess can be made! I always wonder what the sites history has been like when I paddle on the parks routes. I am so used to the backcountry with no history of missuse. The next question is do turtles pose...

    Bear Attack?

A- I set up my camp on a nice rocky outcropping that has not been ravaged by local campers that leave food out or fishermen who clean their fish at camp. The bear is over at the nice smelling camp spot down stream from me where it has been conditioned to look for food. B- While portaging I make...

    Bent Shaft Paddle Fail?

I have the Keewaydin 15 pack boat and a BB Black Pearl in a 48" length. For travel across the large lakes it is a great combo and for the tight swamp switchbacks I just do exaggerated sweeps to turn it back on itself. I will be learning to lean the canoe more and hope to perfect this on the next...

    Swift Keewaydin 15 vs Hemlock

Turtle- I sure hope you will be posting pictures soon on that fine 14'er. I have found mine to be wickedly great but as a larger 230# +camping gear set up I think the extra size of the 15' is a huge advantage. The secondary stability has saved me twice now from going for a swim. It is too bad we...

    First Solo

Your first solo trip was worth the drive just for the quoted line above! Congrats on trying for the 5 day trip. I think the idle time is the biggest risk on a solo trip if your mind wanders the wrong way! I find I need to keep moving or I get restless. Make for longer days of travel but I do...

    Testing

Got your hello from the other site! Cheers;) I find that photobucket has been good for me. Maybe after a years worth of trip reports that may not be true anymore but for now its GTG.
