CanoeTripping.net Shirts, Hats or Other Merchandise

I'd really like a couple of window stickers! One for the barrel and one for the car.

CanoeTripping.net Shirts, Hats or Other Merchandise

I would definitely be interested in some merchandise, especially if it supports the site.

    Wildfires in Canada!

Just read on the NPR site there are over 400 wildfires in Canada now. Many are out of control. If I recall correctly, 8 million acres have burned. Canadian authorities say it will get worse this summer.

    Bag vs barrel

Typically I use a dry bag for food and a small pack for the kitchen kit. I never saw myself using a barrel, but last year I broke down and purchased an RBW barrel package, with a 30L barrel, the harness, buckets, cooler and pockets. I've used it on some ADK trips (with no or short carries) and...

    Which PFD do you have?

NRS Chinook - I love all the pockets and the attachment points to keep the essentials handy. Less time going into the thwart bag while paddling.

    Only in the house.

Adirondacks Stops Inside the Blue Line?

Raquette River Outfitters in Tupper Lake - strike up a conversation with Rob and Ann. The beach in Long Lake (early morning or evening) - great view up the lake. Raquette Lake Navigation Company - lunch cruise around the lake (decent food and interesting history of the area). The Visitor's...

    They're HEERE!!

I'm heading up on Monday for 6 days. I've brought along everything I can think out - permethrin treated clothing, repellent, headnet, bug shirt, screened enclosure, Thermacell, destination on a large lake and I still think I will likely be on the losing end of it, but this is my first trip of...

    Little Tupper Lake

I know the road to the Lows lower dam is closed indefinitey, but I hadn't heard about the Lila access road being closed until July. Did the DEC post anything online about it?

    Outside canoe storage

I lived in Corvallis for 3 years in the early 80s. Those were great years and I enjoyed paddling in different areas throughout the state, especially in the lakes in the Cascades. Fortunately I rented a cottage on a small farm on the edge of town (on NE Pilkington Avenue) that had barn where I...

    Why Are You Here?

I think CT coming up in a search first got me here, but it's the member, their knowledge, experience, kindness and willingness to share that keeps bringing me back. Cefinitely my favorite of all the forums I'm on.

Canoeing, Tripping, Camping with Heart Problems

We have heart disease in our family; on both my mother's and father's side. My father had a heart attack and bypass surgery when he was 53. I had a heart attack when I was 38 (I turned 69 last month). Fortunately, it didn't happen when I was in the woods - I was at home, it was late at night and...

Fibbing To Your Spouse About Canoe Stuff

I just don't talk about it unless she asks. She doesn't go with me and is not involved with my trips, so she pays little attention to my gear and clothing. She just sees that I'm futzing around with it before and after trips. I did have to give her the heads-up on the repairs being done to the...

    Snow? — Where You Are

Same here in Putnam County, NY. I believe it's because I had my snow thrower serviced this past fall. I'm figuring we'll get wacked with at least one in March.
