Decision Time—Thwart Interfering with Seat Back

to me that thwart looks too far forward- That's kind of a common design feature on most of the Northstar solos. When I was able to test paddle their entire line (solos) at the WPSCA before the pandemic, I spoke with their team about the rear thwart digging into the small of my back with the...

Decision Time—Thwart Interfering with Seat Back

I also notice that you have the full sitting drops installed on your seat. By shortening the drops and raising the seat some, you will alter the pivot point of the Backsaver and allow for more recline. Most of the Northstar hulls are stable enough you probably won't notice the difference. I...

Decision Time—Thwart Interfering with Seat Back

Do you really need to move it back that far? The curved thwarts Northstar uses on the pack canoes can buy maybe another inch. Otherwise, as much as I hate drilling more holes in the gunnels, I'd move the thwart.

Old Town Pack Angler - In Camo?

Two things: Benson Gray has convinced me of the inaccuracies of the Old Town catalogues, and when they supplied Dicks with versions of their boats, there were frequent variations in color and outfitting. My 2010 Guide 119 (same as the Disco 119) was in camo, but the Disco 119 (not the Guide...

Old Town Pack Angler - In Camo?

That would be something to see. The Pack Angler was only offered in green to my knowledge, except in 2008 when an off-white option was available. In the Old Town catalogues, the Pack was only available in green after 1983, the Chipewyan Pack in several colors before that. It may be that...

    Bell FlashFire

From the 1999 catalogue, 35 pounds would indicate white gold. The catalogue also describes the Bell two-piece aluminum gunnel, which yours does not appear to be.

How to carry canoe on F150 Supercrew short bed with trailer?

I tried a front hitch with a T-bar on my GMC crew cab, coupled with a single Yakima Bar on top of the cab for a while, a lot of fifth wheel campers use that. Eliminates any need for access to the bed. (Pic not mine)

Attaching foot pegs to a Wenonah Graphite Wee Lassie Canoe

One option is to epoxy 10-24 studs to the inside of the hull with G-glex at the location you want to mount the pegs. Available from Chesapeake Light Craft Before mounting the rails, I prefer to impart a bend that matches the contour of the hull. Pressure, heat and time; this prevents any...

    Lumbar Support Backrest

Not a fan of the Cushgear clamps, prefer the screws, here are a few pics: (they work better with some seats more than others, the radiused spacer is perfect with Essex seats; without the spacer, need a flat surface). At the lowest seatback setting (as shown) the bottom of the back is right...

    Lumbar Support Backrest

I've had a couple of Swift pack boats with the lumbar support pad but found that direct pressure on my lumbar was uncomfortable, so removed the pad. I've found that backrests that distributed the pressure evenly across the largest area of my back worked best, like a backband, but haven't...

Dave Curtis Announces Desire to Retire and Sell Hemlock Canoe Business

I said something to him earlier in the year about it and he claimed immunity from epoxy off-gasses, so maybe he has the right genetics. The pups were always lying on the floor sans respirators while the crew worked, and they seemed to have lived long lives as well. Perhaps my lungs are more...

Dave Curtis Announces Desire to Retire and Sell Hemlock Canoe Business

I stopped into the shop a couple of days ago to grab some parts and they were laying up a boat. If he does find a buyer the first thing they will have to invest in is a better ventilation system; I was in there for 30 minutes and almost passed out from the fumes.
