There are many, Mountainman in Old Forge NY, Blue Mountain Outfitters in Harrisburg PA, to name a few.

    303 Preservative on Composite Canoes

Thanks for taking the time to read it. I've had a copy for years and have made the case against 303 many times in other forums, but fear the allure of a nice shiny hull and a boat builder's recommendation trumps science every time.

Western Pennsylvania Solo Canoe Rendezvous 2023

I wish builder participation would pick up again. Last time I was there was 2019. 2022: Hemlock, Savage River and Stewart River 2021: Hemlock, Savage River and Stewart River 2020: Canceled 2019: Hemlock, Colden, Savage River, Stewart River, Northstar 2018: Slipstream, Savage River, Hemlock...

Foot Brace Location/ Proper Leg Extension

Glenn makes a good point; without something to maintain your butt in a fixed position on a standard hung seat, your knees will eventually straighten no matter where you place the bar, as you slide rearward. Canting the seat for kneeling sometimes helps. Got this backband from McCrea a few years...

Foot Brace Location/ Proper Leg Extension

I have installed many a Wenonah footbar and can relate. My inseam is 28 inches and the tendency is to mount in a location that provides some adjustment for oneself. It would be fine if you could guarantee that the boat would never be sold or paddled by anyone else. I usually mount so that I...

    303 Preservative on Composite Canoes

Well, it's mostly water, which is why it tends to disperse and leave a little slick behind the boat. Some of the minor ingredients are 'proprietary' but the MSDS sheet does list some environmental issues. I had a bit of a discussion with the folks at Hornbeck a while back who on the one hand...

    Grasse River Boatworks Classic XL

They've never been too free with their phone number, but the email address is on the website. On my invoice from 2021 there is 315-244-4037, if you want to try that. There is a lot of rocker on the GRB Rambler, but did not appear to be any on the Classic XL hanging in their barn. Wouldn't be...

    Stellar Dragonfly Pack Canoe

Well, to their credit, they do claim to use American made Kevlar in their builds, unlike Wenonah who uses Chinese made Twaron. Last year there was a Stellar dealer on the west coast that was deeply discounting two of these Dragonflys to move them out, so they may have an uphill struggle to gain...

    Stellar Dragonfly Pack Canoe

The Chinese have made inroads in the kayaking community with the Stellar line, not sure how willing the canoeing or pack boat buyers will be. Time will tell.

    Wenonah Solitude repair and renovation

Regarding seat suggestions: Grass River Boatworks has a carbon bucket seat assembly that is very similar to Wenonah's, but the price jumped from $200 to $315 this year. Or, Placid Boatworks has a fixed bucket seat in three heights for $200 that I have epoxied in other hulls. Also, there were...

    Wenonah Solitude repair and renovation

Like Mason said, I think after you try transferring the first couple of holes you will see that the thickness of the kevlar is insufficient to provide guidance to the drill bit and you will end up with sloppy holes. Plenty of space between the old holes to redrill and no one will ever know they...

What does a Old Town PACK look like with wood?

Ah, I forget what it was like before 'Just-in-Time' manufacturing became the norm.

What does a Old Town PACK look like with wood?

Yikes! A 45 pound 'Pack'. Folks don't give Old Town sufficient due for the engineering that went into getting the Pack down to 33 pounds from the original Chipewyan 12. I wonder why it took so long for this boat to go from the shop to the dealer?

WTB - Northstar NW Solo / Bell Merlin II / Hemlock Peregrine (or similar)

I have heard others express disappointment with the NW Solo, and still others who swear by them. I can tell you that the Advantage is a real blast on flat water, but a white-knuckle trip in wind and chop.

WTB - Northstar NW Solo / Bell Merlin II / Hemlock Peregrine (or similar)

Sorry, did not mean to imply they were similar hulls, just that I was surprised how slow the Peregrine seemed in general, a perception no doubt exacerbated by the immediate transition from a quasi-racing hull to a lake country tripper. I have owned a great many solos before and since that would...

WTB - Northstar NW Solo / Bell Merlin II / Hemlock Peregrine (or similar)

I went from an Advantage to a Peregrine and was surprised just how slow the Peregrine was. But it was such a pleasure to paddle in almost all conditions I kind of lost the 'need for speed'. I have a Trillium now, but test paddled all of Northstar's solos; just didn't get that speed rush from...

    Why Buy A New Canoe?

There's a bunch of Facebook Groups like North American Canoe Traders and Northeast Canoe Fanatics that have been fueling the fire on used boats. I missed out on a used Magic a few months ago that someone offered more than asking price after I had set up an appointment. But I am content with a...

    Why Buy A New Canoe?

I was in Minden for a couple of months when I worked for Bentley/Nevada. Beautiful country, but you ARE a long way from any canoe shops. We are spoiled in upstate NY with any number of canoe retailers and manufacturers, but I still prefer used.
