    Tandem Yoke Pads

Awesome, I think they'll be a very welcome addition to my Penobscot 16, which I can portage myself but which I certainly wouldn't call comfortable.

    Dreaded Cancer, Mark III

@Keeled Over and others, thank you for sharing. There was a time when such things weren't discussed in polite company, but I think we're all better for talking about it. To the comments that everyone dies, the book Being Mortal is a great read - worth reading no matter your age and health...

    Tandem Yoke Pads

Wow, a very generous offer, thanks BlackFly! If no one else is in dire need, I've always wanted to try the bolt-on style for my heavier tandem.

    Wind threshold

I have a lot of fears about wind, but having a boat break up under me wasn't one of them! What type of material was it? Was it bridging waves that did the damage, or what?

Padding on cross bars for canoe?

One thing I like about foam on crossbars is my perception of increased holding power with less "strapping power". My buddy with bare bars cranks his straps down really hard (he's working with heavy duty layups, but cranks harder than I'dbe comfortable with on an ultralight boat), because he's...

    Poling in Maine

Thanks, @RickR ! That's great info, as I'm in the same figurative boat (would be hard to practice poling from the same literal boat!). I did intro to poling at MCS and have been practicing but feel like I'd benefit from instruction on moving water. I'll have to see if I can get up there for a...

Lake Taghkanic gathering May 18? (Ancram, NY)

Alas I'm not going to make it to this one, sorry! I'll look forward to the next.

Good find, thanks Glenn! RickR, was that your first poling experience?

    Paddling in the Pool

Looks like a great outing! Nice that you have some polers and good poling locations to get out on. I'm with Bob B. on the dog issue. I can do flatwater poling with the dog but his sudden weight-shifts prohibit poling in moving water, often making choose between poling and taking him.

What do you use for a table?

I've been in the flattish rock etc crowd for a while. But last fall we happened to end up at the lean-to on Follensby Clear Pond (Adirondacks), which had a high table built into the outside wall. I was deeply appreciative of a level surface high enough to stand at while cooking. I agree...

    Your emergency canoe repair kit?

Three Minutes with a Maine Guide has 4 videos on repairs and repair kits. As with many of her videos, not all of it applies to all of us, but she's got some great tips and real world experience.

    Free Mohawk 13

Not my listing. @Cheeseandbeans found a free Mohawk on FB, and neither of us is going for it. We don't know anything other than what's in the post. It's on the South Shore of Long Island, NY (I can guess why they're giving away a WW boat living there.)...

Hanging or storing a canoe off floor in a garage with vehicles

I feel a bit silly asking, but for those with wall racks below waist height (@Robin @Carp ), how do you get the lower boats off? Slide off the end, or the side? I built my wall rack for boats to come off the side (it's on the back wall of a space limited garage). But it's awkward with a solo...

    Your emergency canoe repair kit?

Thanks for the info! Everyone says composites are tougher than one thinks, but they sell IXP for a reason. Good to hear of real world experiences of failure points.

    Your emergency canoe repair kit?

I'd be curious to hear more about what it takes to crack a Blacklite hull. Moving water? Fast or slow? Loaded boat? Hit straight on the bow, or somewhere along the side or bottom?
