Tarp type and set-up style, and let's see some pix

I use the No Bug Zone and my CCS 10 x 14 tarp. Don't bring a tent anymore.

Tarp type and set-up style, and let's see some pix

Hey all - my brother and I were debating taking that overhanging tree down. We had shifted to the side so it wasn't a huge issue for us, but if a larger party used the site it could be an issue. Not many places to set camp so this was it. Still alive, so we left it. This was in Wabakimi...

Tarp type and set-up style, and let's see some pix

Day three at this site, emerging after 2 days of wind and rain. Wind pounding out of the north. Had tarp set up over No Bug Zone. My brother brings the whole press/coffee thing so we sat, drank coffee, played backgammon and waited it out. And had an incoming thread of a river that...

    Canned meals?

For many years on longer trips I would throw a can of Dinty Moore in the barrel as a back-up. Never had to rely on it. I had originally planned on a can of Spam - this to remind me of my EARLY camping days with my buddy. Crack that can open and put by the fire till warm. Seemed so...

Questions for my trip to Labrador and Newfoundland

Thank you Modified! This is great stuff you have provided. You directly nailed one of our favorite landscapes - you had me at "exposed mantle". Geology Field Guide ordered. (I do love field guides - read 'em like novels). I recall hearing about the crater - thank you for pointing it out...

Beyond phones, what photo and video equipment for canoe trips?

Some time back there was a thread on here - I may have actually started it - about cameras. As usual I received a bunch of ideas on here and I eventually settled on that same Olympus TG-6 mentioned above. I had always used disposables because I only take pictures of fish, but since they were...

Best canoe dog for wolf protection

I have never seen a cat with a look that CLEARLY says, don't f*** with me like this one. Love him!!

Show us pictures of your canoe dogs

Here is Shep the canoe dog - another rescue we pulled of the scrap heap. He is partial to the Grumman over the Mohawk, and requires an umbrella to stay comfortable. Only dog I ever had that always crosses his paws when he lays down.

Miscellaneous Ramblings From My 13,500 Mile North American Tour

Very cool! Love those Chargers. It's funny seeing these things live now - they are so big. For about a decade I worked for the company that made the interiors for those, and many other cars, for the movie industry. For the first movie we out together 10 sets. They have a bunch of cars...

Questions for my trip to Labrador and Newfoundland

Up until 2 am it was! After looking at the things I wanted to do I figured I better push harder to get to NF. Things huge. So while this was only going to to be day tripping/fishing, trip logistics have killed the canoe. I'll probably get banned!

Questions for my trip to Labrador and Newfoundland

Hello folks, Trip is getting fleshed out. Leave Rochester NY, drive around to Toronto for fun and then head straight up to Hwy 389, then over to 500 and down to 510. All seems pretty straightforward. I have been fascinated with Newfoundland forever and want to make sure I cover "The Rock"...

Miscellaneous Ramblings From My 13,500 Mile North American Tour

Oops - I got the deal through Budget. Thank you Alan. I have often heard of this practice and have no issue with it. I have never been in situation where I needed to, but it is on the table. My last trip I had the white mini-van - dubbed Beluga by chick - with Florida plates. Didn't...

Miscellaneous Ramblings From My 13,500 Mile North American Tour

Hello all, Going top shelf this time! Just rented a 12 person passenger van for September 1st through September 30th, 2025 for $1899 all in with no restrictions on travelling in Canada. Gonna strap that Grumman Standard to the roof and bring the trolling motor and gen. I was checking...

Canadian HWY 389 and 510 to the East

Ah, another one of my "take it as gospel" contributors. Thank you very much YC You have been missed. For the new folks, you will soon see this is the best site in the world for detail info. Of all the activities I do no other website has members that provide this level of information...

Miscellaneous Ramblings From My 13,500 Mile North American Tour

Had a few more items pop into my head from the trip - may have mentioned some in another thread - sorry! I adopted a technique used by the sailing set for long passages – I never turned the van off while in the outback. Even stopping for gas I didn’t shut it off. This Chrysler Pacifica was...

Canadian HWY 389 and 510 to the East

recped, as usual you are an encyclopedia of information - never fail to impress. Thank you very much for the above. Whether known or not by him, his knowledge has helped me plan trips and has had a big impact on some equipment purchases I have made. I appreciate the knowledge and the TIME...

Canadian HWY 389 and 510 to the East

Hi Robin, yes it is a no tell situation for that canoe. I have rented cars for years for work and they seem to be less interested in damage these past few years. Scratches up to the length of a dollar bill, dents the size of a quarter are things I have been told. When I locked in my...

Canadian HWY 389 and 510 to the East

After my Denali experience I will pull the agent over the counter and walk them to the car with me to verify the spare. I brought 10 freeze dried meals as back-up on the other trip but only ate three of them - figured I might log a couple boon-docking days - and I will do the same on this one...
