    Wind/Peel Rivers - Yukon

Well, they are the only game in town. We had great service. I would use them again in a heart beat. You hear of such things about all the flight services around the north. I've heard a lot worse than that!

    Wind/Peel Rivers - Yukon

I forgot to mention one thing. The Wind has wonderful and accessible hiking. For a good chunk of the trip you are right in the mountains and the views are spectacular. I made a point of dropping weight and getting myself somewhat fit for this trip so that I could enjoy the hiking. It was a...

    Wind/Peel Rivers - Yukon

I know folks who have done the same. Teachers with the summer off. In my case it seems I either have money or time, never both, mostly neither. I'm going to start looking at other trips up north so if the opportunity presents itself I have a few ideas. I'm looking for remote 2-3 week trips with...

    Wind/Peel Rivers - Yukon

I will take a more specific look at the Hart. We would need to pulled out above Aberdeen Canyon for sure. I am also going to take a look at some rivers in Alaska and maybe consider going back to the Thelon for a second experience there. Great wildlife there.

    Wind/Peel Rivers - Yukon

It is true that the Wind - and some others in the watershed - are traveled quite a bit. We saw only one other group, (also a group from Whitehorse), while we were on the Wind. Still, the danger of hordes of red necked bi-peds was a fear of mine when we planned this trip. We are not looking for...

    Wind/Peel Rivers - Yukon

This won't be a detailed trip report - there are plenty out there on the internets regarding this trip. A group of us did a shortish - two week - trip on the Wind and Peel Rivers in the Peel River Watershed (Yukon) this past summer. It was one heck of a trip. Spectacular scenery. Great group...

    DownEast magazine Allagash Feature

Well, this certainly has got my blood boiling again. Great stuff. This is a great little forum. You folks do this stuff the right way. Guess I need to send some e mails and start thinking about ice out.

I just watched that nice little video the OP posted. My regular trip mate learned to paddle as a boy on trips in Maine run by the father, (Herb Cochrane), of one of the leaders on that trip in the video. That experience had a huge impact on my friend and truly shaped his life in many ways, most...

    DownEast magazine Allagash Feature

Yea, July can be bug free for sure. But trust me, bring a bug shirt just in case in June. June can be brutal. Worst bugs I've ever dealt with in all my years, including Nunavut, Northwest Territories, and Yukon were in June on Round Pond. I honestly prefer a put in at Chamberlin Bridge. I love...

Trips planned for 2017 What is everyone planning

You all have me thinking I need to start planning something. We won't do anything really big this year. We all blew our wallets last year. But, maybe something in Maine which is what we tend to do between trips up north.

    DownEast magazine Allagash Feature

Bring the bug shirt! I had the experience of being on the Allagash one year in the fall when a outfit was shooting a film for a movie on the changing Allagash. There was no one else on the waterway and so we ended up in the film quite a bit. One of our group was interviewed and gently...

    Material choices

Man, do I agree with this! If I am lucky I'll have one, maybe two, more trips up north. You have to savor these moments we have in the woods. Life is short.

Just so there is no confusion - my canoe is still for sale! Canotrouge and I are communicating off list about a trip in his neck of the woods (Yukon) this summer. Its not practical to transport this canoe to the Yukon because I will be flying out there commercial, not driving. He has been...

SOLD Headwaters Canoe 16' Prospector (wood/canvas)

Maybe we could work a deal. Do you have a 6 passenger pick up? Or a van? Could you drive 4 guys with two canoes and two weeks of gear to Mayo and then return to bring us back to Whitehorse? Truth is we would prefer to drive to Whitehorse but we don't have the time so we are flying. But, if you...
