Brook Trout Fishing Adirondack Mountain Kettle Ponds

18" Brook Trout! That amazing! And congrats on your pb! Would love to learn more about fishing for Brookies in the 'daks. I've only recently had some luck in running water...on the Boreas...but then again I haven't fished much that far north anyway.

    ADK ice out

I was hoping to take advantage of the weather too Robin. I've been watching this and it melting quick but not to the point that we can paddle. http://mylonglake.com/httpmylonglake-comcontact-mapscontact-us-2contact-us-2contact-us-2/long-lake-ny-webcam/

    Stoves

Thx Alan...yeah, feeding from the side was a bit of a pain but then again it was on the ground. If it were propped up on a log or something maybe it would've been easier. Speaking of pain...I burned my Gd finger in the process LOL Nice setup Old Tom. That looks like it works very well! Did you...

    Stoves

No Title Was lucky to get outta work early today and decided to test out a twig stove. Used an old sterno stove that was probly the first camping stove I ever bought. Conditions were perfect in the yard today...sunny, dry twigs and a slight breeze. I was able to get a pot of water to a rolling...

    Hatch

Midge...ahh yes, heard of that before. But to accomodate for my learning curve, what do you mean by the "larvae are aquatic and the adults hatch out?" Don't the larvae eventually turn into adults? Why would larvae come out of water and adults come out of the trees? I am down here on the north...

    Snow Reports Please

Down here on Long Island it was kinda a dudd...NWS kept saying 10-16 right up until I think the first rain drops fell. We received mostly a mixture of snow, sleet and rain totaling about 4inches tops. Other sources were more skeptical about the big snow dump. But anyway... Would like to know...

    Hatch

Noticed something very interesting when out fishing recently (new to me but I'm sure others have experienced before)...tons of these guys falling from the branches and limbs and any vegetation still present this time of year. Was I experiencing a "hatch?"... a term I've heard flyfisherman use...

    On bannock

No Title LOL Thanks for the great pointers Alan....exactly what I was looking for. I tried it today again, mixing ingredients right in my iron skillet, added water, some dried fruit and made a much smaller portion. With practice, it seems to be getting better. I can see myself bringing...

    On bannock

Made some today for the first time (at home) and it came out pretty good. Of course there are many ways to make it according to one's preferences but I trying to figure out if it worth bringing/making in the first place. If you out for a 3-5...

    Stoves

Thanks Alan. Twig stove looks simple and easy to use but did you ever have an issue finding dry fuel for it? I think they a great idea but like you mentioned the last days of your trip were kind of wet. Would you have been in a bind if you didn't have the Trangia?

    Wolf Moon...Wolf Fish

Great article! In the first paragraph McPhee mentions different types of prey....frogs, crayfish, turtles, etc... In a magazine I got in the mail yesterday, I saw an advertisement for a lure that resembled a small duckling....never seen anything like it but I figured right away it must be for...

    Wolf Moon...Wolf Fish

Thanks for posting BB! Never read that before...going to read asap. John McPhee wrote a lot of great stuff, especially his 3 or 4 books about traveling across the U.S. with various geologists. Thx!

    Wolf Moon...Wolf Fish

Back in January, we had a Wolf Moon (first full moon of the year?). That day happened to be quite warm for January where I live so I headed to a local pond where I know there are some pretty nice Chain Pickerel swimming around. After a few casts, I was fortunate enough to land a 3lber...always a...
