What are you looking for in a canoe expo?

@Alan Gage I would love to have a private sales aspect to the show. An auction could definitely be a pathway for that.

What are you looking for in a canoe expo?

@snapper I have not reached out to any existing events yet, save for the original Canoecopia. My current trajectory is to: 1. Establish the scope and purpose 2. Gauge general interest 3. Gauge industry interest After that, I will recruit some advisors, revisit point 1, and start nailing down...

What are you looking for in a canoe expo?

I would encourage all to vote. Indiana being an unacceptable location is totally fine. 1. I'm trying to poll the group as a whole 2. The rest of the answers may benefit someone looking at doing the same thing, but closer to you.

What are you looking for in a canoe expo?

Please select responses that most closely align with your ideals. Due to limitations on polling setup, this is the only way to ask multiple questions in the same poll. I had a lot more questions, but apparently this is the maximum number of responses allowed. Please drop any other thoughts you...

How to recruit new canoe paddlers?

I was thinking about this thread while using the erg this morning. Every single person that has come into the gym while I have it set up wants to know what it is and what I am training for. Some of the younger (20's) members always seem to steer the conversation towards the competitive side...

    Post your training paddles

Did some interval work today. 45ish spm warmup and working rest, damper setting 5. 1 minute 75+spm work intervals, damper also at 5. After 1 minute, decrease stroke rate until HR dropped to around 130bpm for a minute and then go again when ready. Kicked my butt and toasted my back. PM5...

    Canoecopia show has been discontinued

I think the primary difficulty in replicating a Canoecopia experience would be the merchandise stock and the speaker lineup. Without a sponsoring retailer, manufacturers would have to bring their own goods and point of sale systems, which could get tricky with state taxes. And a lot of the usual...

Rutabaga Paddlesports in Madison, Wisconsin, is Closing (NO - Staying Open)

Yeah, there are retention ponds at the applicable event centers, but they are tiny. Enough to get a feel for stability and maneuverability, I reckon. Plus a river about a mile away. Some largeish reservoirs within five miles. Not sure how all that would work with manufacturers. Central Indiana...

    Canoecopia show has been discontinued

I sincerely hope some entity picks up the reigns and continues the event. It's too far for me to effectively manage.

I think Gamma was referring to Canoecopia.

Rutabaga Paddlesports in Madison, Wisconsin, is Closing (NO - Staying Open)

Dang. That was unexpected. I wonder if someone will take the reins? Do you think people would come to Indiana for a similar, smaller scale, experience? It certainly isn't canoe country, but it is central and warmer.

Rutabaga Paddlesports in Madison, Wisconsin, is Closing (NO - Staying Open)

Source? Darren was pretty adamant that Canoecopia would continue without him in control of Rutabaga. I think it may even encourage growth in that arena, as some of the weird vendor/store politics will no longer be in play.

And now closing for sure. Liquidation sale ongoing.

Valuable things you've lost on canoe trips

Ray Ban Aviators in Sylvania during a rollover and Oakley Fuel Cells in the BWCA when unshouldering a canoe in the muck. If only there was a way to keep them from falling so far from my head when dislodged... 🤔😶

    Post your training paddles

Managed a whole hour in Z2 this morning. Not anywhere close to 60spm, but little improvements will undoubtedly keep coming and build into much larger steps.

Trust at Both Ends: The Silent Language of Tandem Paddling

Solo by necessity. Tandem worked well enough with my son, but about the time he was in a place to really start syncing up, he wanted to switch to solo. We could probably really learn well together at this point, but our fleet is all solos now. Dear wife is just not into it all that much, and is...

    Optimal weight

The carrying capacity has a lot of variance from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some use waterline, some use freeboard, it can get weird. Most modern manufacturers seem to give an ideal weight range, which seems to correlate with the 3-4" waterline, give or take. My experience, which is nothing...
